The anti-protestor laws have made it a necessity for arrests in order to have anything remotely resembling a successful protest. Our right and civil duty to protest has been criminalised, and the fucking pigs are complicit.

Police are the honour guard of the climate apocalypse.

Look. If there's anything damaging the environment, we'll just tow it out of the environment...

More seriously. Given our current NZ government's attitudes, I fear a similar pattern to emerge here.

How long is jail time of protesting vs murder?

THIS IS THE QUESTION

WE'RE NUMBER ONE! WE'RE NUMBER ONE! WE'RE NUMBER ONE! WE'RE NUMBER ONE! WE'RE NUMBER ONE!

*Gets arrested for protesting*

That's okay, when climate change turns Australia into Mad Max, us Americans will be over here in our christofascist hellscape drying from measles and paying for the privilege, so we won't notice.

What, you expected there to be a bright side? Dafuq cloud is your head in?

You didn't protest hard enough when they took away our right to protest. sucks to suck.

will target "anarchist protesters"

we don't fucking protest. anti-protester legislation is only targeting people who still think the state can be reasoned with.

Keep rolling that dice. Please.

As an Australian, I can confidently tell you, as a matter of fact, that I'm a paid actor, who lives in some kind of amorphous aether between the mesosphere and troposphere.

I'm surprised we get internet up here.

Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:
