been saying this since November.

I've been stocking up on cold meds and the like since the day after we found out the results. get a bottle or two every time you get groceries.

with birdflu on the horizon it's only a matter of time.

Thumbs up for True Detective.

Back to the fucking MAGAts. If US meat makes into the EU market, I hope my fellow consumers are smart enough to avoid that and let it rot on the shelves.

[-] Ultraviolet@lemmy.world 29 points 17 hours ago

It gets worse: MAGAts will use the lack of recalls as evidence that food is safer now.

[-] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

And people that report on that negatively will be raided by the cops.

[-] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 9 points 9 hours ago

Ah yes, the just stop testing method. Worked flawlessly every other time it was attempted.

[-] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 2 points 3 hours ago

I do hear that getting rid of all the doctors cuts diagnosis rates way down.

[-] Soulifix@kbin.melroy.org 9 points 23 hours ago

I'm expecting more batshit things like nutrition labels will be horribly exaggerated. "This Mac and Cheese dinner is ONE serving. Calories: 240. Because it's YOUR DINNER!" or some shit.

Would be great when Europe stop accepting food imports from the US.

[-] TransplantedSconie@lemm.ee 26 points 1 day ago

What food? They are going to deport the workforce that harvests it.

[-] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

There will be still immigrant workers, except they'll have to accept harsher conditions. Expect prison labor for detained migrants.

[-] rottingleaf@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago

I suspect they will make rules harsher for some kinds of labor migration, while relax them for other kinds.

Musk has businesses too, especially since he's moving everything to Texas.

What it all looks like for me is the new administration promising and apparently going to do things in exactly the same logic as the previous administration, but with less elaborate excuses. Same power redistribution, but done uglier.

About the effect on the economy and replacing the workforce - it seems that they want Americans to work those jobs. That may be interesting.

Also I think I've read something about having appetites at hitlerizing not just Canada, but also Mexico. Then, it seems, they will come to the workforce. Dunno how that mixes with Trump's bigotry, but future is always unpredictable.

[-] Apytele@sh.itjust.works 6 points 11 hours ago

They're going to use more prison labor.

Yeah slavery is just kinda... legal.

[-] Crikeste@lemm.ee 8 points 9 hours ago

Slavery, it’s called S L A V E R Y.

[-] Obi@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 day ago

I'm pretty sure a lot of stuff would already not be allowed for import here and only the products that pass EU regs can be imported en masse (not like specialty shops/foreign section etc).

[-] don@lemm.ee 47 points 1 day ago

It’s the enshittification of the presidency once again.

[-] crossdl@leminal.space 3 points 11 hours ago

As long as they leave my top ten GDP Blue state alone, dumb hicks can lead poison and E.Coli themselves into early graves. Maybe it'll increase the housing supply.

Blue Governors were able to do some mitigation of Trump last time. I'm hoping for it again.

~~Pestilence~~, Famine, War, and Death.

Choose your next card mortal.

[-] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

It'll be all four at once:

Pestilence: The bird flu will be ravaging, all while the Trump admin tries to ban vaccines and meds for it as they'll "disencourage healthy lifestyle choices such as raw milk and weight lifting", all while COVID is still a thing, and bans on vaccines in general will make a lot of things even worse.

Famine: Thanks to deregulations, food processing plants will kill its workers in general, then the food that was produced by them, the customers, all while activists calling for the return of food regulations will be arrested on spot. If they chose to actually go through with the deportations, they'll just take the workers of the creative industry there through forced labor, as many are convinced they're replaced.

War: In all of this chaos, Russia, China, etc are seeing an opportunity for their imperialist ambitions, and start to open fronts on a lot of places, and is not limited to the US, which will be the very first to fall.

Death: While it'll turn out, Russia actually lost its nuclear warheads, China, India, etc., still has them, alongside with the now fallen apart US. This results in what the few million survivors will call, the Nuclear Holocaust, and those survivors won't be freed from humaity's past problems, especially as a colony of few hundred thousands are being lead by white supremacists, who want to destroy the other colonies for "being degenerate".

[-] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

The famine is nigh inevitable, nearly 20% rise in homelessness, folks are already stressed about food and that’s still going wild in price

[-] AA5B@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

I’m told eggs will be cheaper

[-] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

The president retracted his promise to reduce food prices already.

I think a decent response here would be to boycott processed foods

The majority of foodborne illness outbreaks have been from contamination of unprocessed food.

[-] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 1 points 16 hours ago

Thanks to manure.

The EPA and FDA set limits and regulate pesticide, herbicide, and antibiotic use. A raw or paleo diet probably won't help much without both agencies.

Sadly the vast majority of people are either poor or time poor so it’s not an option for many.

It costs more to eat fresh produce, you have to shop for it more, and it takes more time to prepare.
