They sold merchandise. It even had its own workshop where people could publish their own designs which were sometimes released as official merch.

Oh, sounds cool, I hope they keep doing it somehow.

They most likely are gonna integrate it with the steam store

Hopefully, I literally did not know it existed before just now

Same here, I would've bought a hat or something if I'd known.

[–] Voyajer@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

What about a towering pillar of hats?

[–] arefx@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I bought some dota shirts back in the day off there. They were very high quality especially the polos. If they incorporate it into steam I'd probably buy something else.

I literally didn't know there was a separate store from the steam store up until this post.

First I've ever heard of it. What was this? Just merch?

Any info on why it closed? Will there be a replacement?

[–] LostDeer@infosec.pub 37 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I think I know why it closed. You didn’t hear about it, I didn’t hear about it, somehow they didn’t market it very well. lol

[–] NabeGewell@lemmy.world 19 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Did they market it at all?

[–] SheeEttin@lemmy.world 23 points 2 years ago

No.

I was going to say my steam account is 16 years old and I'd never heard of it, but turns out the Archimedes plush I bought back in 2012 came from that store.

Their demise is getting heaps of traction

No. They just downright don't advertise their Steam branded merch at all. It's no wonder nobody knew this existed. Haha

[–] uplink@beehaw.org 6 points 2 years ago

It was probably closed because forfansbyfans was acquired.

[–] nukul4r@feddit.de 12 points 2 years ago

Since they already sell physical products directly on Steam (Steam Deck, Index, etc.) wouldn't it make sense to integrate it?

[–] Quazatron@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago

This is the first time I've heard about it. Now where am I going to buy the Half-Life T-shirt I never knew I needed?

[–] gradecurve@kbin.social 8 points 2 years ago

Far as I remember, this used to be the online side of the secret shop for The International (Dota 2), then generalized a bit to sell Portal t-shirts and whatever. The company that actually ran it changed hands & names a couple times until Goodsmile bought it, and I doubt Valve care too much to find another vendor at this point.

[–] SoaringDE@feddit.de 2 points 2 years ago

Oh no! Hope some equally engaged shop takes it's place.
