I wasn't super excited about him during the show, I was convinced he was just some standing "Sith", but looking back he keeps getting better.

Who affected history more? Ottomans or Romans?

Romans, certainly. The Ottomans had a smaller period of influence and with fewer enduring introduced cultural institutions in the regions they ruled over.
