A place to ask Canadians questions and get answers. The most obvious questions would be about Canada, but you can ask about pretty much anything; news, current events, society, etc

I don't intend this as an AMA format, but can entertain some. Rules:

  1. Be civil and act in good faith.
  2. No trolling.

Add Shoresy to that list! And Corner Gas!

It's a video game, but I've been playing Sea of Stars, an indie game made in Québec with Chrono Trigger vibes.
Not sure if it's available for purchase without going through Steam though, but at least the studio is local.

The Debaters. There are so many seasons going back years, and most of them are hilarious.

The Walrus, an independent magazine with long forum journalistic stories. https://thewalrus.ca/

Canadian news is in danger. Our sources are primarily owned by right-wing Americans. We need to protect CBC and publications like the Walrus.

Fubar, Carts of Darkness, The Delicate Art of Parking.

[–] Noel_Skum@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

Carts Of Darkness is an incredible documentary; in my opinion. Could not recommend it enough.

For TV there's Murdoch Mysteries.

For music I could go on for a long time!

For rock there's Billy Talent, The Beaches, Alexisonfire, Tokyo Police Club, City and Colour, Arcade Fire, Arkells, Barenaked Ladies, Metric, Hotel Mira, Mother Mother, Sum 41, The Trews, The Strumbellas, The Zolas. That's just what I can see in my CD collection. For electronic music there's Deadmau5 but he's well known already.

Don't forget ReBoot, Hilarious House of Frightenstein, and Sex with Sue!

Bonus points for Ed the Sock

From the music section of the Great Canadian Library:

One from the prairies

And one from the east coast

[–] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

For authentic Canadian, you simply have to crack open a two-four of Labatts while watching the kids in the hall with The Tragically Hip playing softly on the stereo in the background. (we miss you Gordie)

Republic of Doyle was pretty good when it was airing.
