A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.

- Posts must be original/unique

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

that's the main reason you should care. It makes sense being target of murder when you know you are not important, so no one would care
Nah killing for no reason. No one with that expertise will be wasting time like that.
Plenty of random innocent people have died from package bombs. All it takes is for someone to hate your boss / your neighbor / someone unrelated with the same name. Or just, someone unhinged

Eh, they could very well have someone that wants to kill them. But it's less likely that they have someone willing to take the risk of prison to do it though, or the knowledge of how to actually make a bomb
Unless... there's profit in it. No profit in sending a customer a bomb.

If you ordered from a package bomb delivery service it would have an almost 100% chance of being one.

I'm waiting for the city wide random delivery service that some country will send some day for everyone to enjoy .... all 2 million of them all at once.
I think something crazy would have to happen for that to be a possibility. Like, the US President would have to be taking orders from Russia or worse.
It also has a chance of being a million dollars.
And this post says a lot about the human inability to assess various types of risk amongst high / low likelihood and how much damage/benefit a given risk is capable of. Many might think, eee $1M, so good, but cannot project forward, as studies of lottery winners have found, that within a year or two the winner is back at their baseline economic level. But it's rare the person who thinks, "I can hire a financial manager, to help me with this windfall."
You've won the lottery; obviously your only option is to immediately develop unsustainable spending habits while abandoning all sources of income.

There was a bomber in Texas who murdered several strangers with package bombs left on their doorsteps. He blew himself up just before he was captured. I don't think we ever got an explanation of his motivation. It's really rare, but it does happen.
The fact is that most of us are alive simply because no one has decided to kill us yet. There is no complete safety in this life, so you may as well take reasonable precautions and chill. Enjoy your life.
Yeah, lithium ion batteries are a real danger.
