If it is, Rocket League is an 11/10 sports game.

Is Counter-Strike a sports game by virtue of being an e-sport? 🤔

I wish there were more sports games like Rocket League, though. Something that is akin to real sports and played in a way that your movement and handling of the controls is the skill needed and not hidden stats behind the scenes like a Madden game where your handling of a ball is dependent on the character/dice rolls not the player.

Trackmania is probably THE example because of it's deterministic physics that will always act the same way given the inputs are the same.

I’d rather race down the same old tracks in F1 than play a mid rpg with a cringe inducing story and subpar acting.

It is the greatest mystery of my life that there are so many Forza games.

Same few tracks. Keeping your stick mostly in the middle, with slight adjustments to the left and right.

At least Mario Kart is fun.

Forza Horizon, on the other hand, are actually quite fun.

They are complete opposites. Most sport games are pick up and play: you can be playing almost instantly and are easy to learn, hard to master. Plus they tend to be the perfect game for local multiplayer as most people already know the rules.

RPGs require you to create a character, go through several exposition dumps, go through a lengthy tutorial, etc. It's a genre that requires considerable time investments to having fun and sessions tend to become longer.

When it works, these can be fantastic multiplayer games, but finding someone willing to play is harder than putting a necktie on an eel.

Still waiting on my buddy to come back to the Secret of Mana game we started in 2005.

Pyre is a sports game disguised as an RPG

[–] Mister_Feeny@fedia.io 5 points 2 weeks ago

I'd argue more a sports game disguised as a visual novel, but either way, that was a good game.

And Final Fantasy X

What about fifa my player carreer mode? It's both RPG and sports

Nah, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 is the greatest 10/10 sports game I have ever played. I don't even like golf and that is the only sports game in my entire library that I insist on playing even to this day, racing games not included (even though racing is a sport as well). I have way more fun with PGA 2004 than I ever have with a 7/10 RPG.

Mario Golf fot GameBoy was an excellent sport RPG.

How about a RPG sports game like Sim Golf where you build your character and stats and your golf course but then also play computer golf?

[–] NoForwardslashS@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 weeks ago

Where does this leave Blitz Bowl?

A 1/10 linear choices don't matter RPG where the main characters have really annoying voices and don't shut up is better than the best sports game.
