There really need to be financial incentives to get companies to switch to European IT solutions.
If just a few European enterprises would purchase these products, there would be enough funding to make them very competitive.

Absolutely! That's why we want to promote moving to European solutions.
Yes, we want that. But sadly those incentive structures don't exist to my knowledge.
In my company we are looking at a relatively big niche IT purchase.
The European alternative is quite good, and more innovative than, but not yet on par with, the US alternative.
If 2-3 companies like ours would choose the European competitor, they would have enough references and revenue to be able to compete on a global level.
The irony is that there is a non-European company from a very small country that is also very good and their country is known to really stimulate domestic production.
In the EU, our IT policy really sucks.
Buy the way, I see you posting from the two accounts, but you can just use the one you prefer, no need to keep both ๐
Oh, I know but thank you! It's just that I started (stupidly) on Lemmy.ca, then became mod, then started an account on the proper server (feddit.org) - and now I would need to migrate. At some point I will.
Nice, first time I hear about a few of these!
I don't think many people know about Jottacloud, a norwegian cloud storage solution (only 5GB free though)
There is Hetzner also, it's German.
Have alread uses:
I'll look into the rest of those alternatives! :D
I love this initiative and looked up something I use a lot at work. I use Confluence for a whole lot of things, often in teams but for myself as well. So I looked up XWiki but found it wasn't really comparable.
Confluence is a SaaS product. It used to be self hostable as well, but I don't think it is anymore. But one of the reasons I use Confluence is because it's very easy to setup and get going. For my own (work) stuff it's free. And when I work with teams from customers it's still very cheap and so easy to get going. This means at the start of the project I recommend to my customer to use it and they often agree right away because it's zero overhead, zero hassle and pretty cheap. It also integrates well with stuff like BitBucket, Trello, Jira etc.
Maybe XWiki is comparable from a feature point of view, but not from a service point of view. Self hosting is not something I want to put time into, so I would have to pay someone to do it. And convincing my customers to do such a thing is a complete no-go.
Are there comparable services either in the form of SaaS or reasonable priced hosted options? I know from a consumer point of view SaaS is the devil, but from a business point of view it's basically the only accepted form right now.
I would love to switch over to EU only products and services, but it has been hard finding the right solutions.
Pure speculation, but I think a lot of people hate Atlassian products because theyโre using outdated self-hosted versions that are not configured properly.
Iโm a big fan of their SaaS products. Theyโre cheap (often free depending on team size), get lots of updates, look modern and just work really well.
Theyโre not EU, but at least theyโre not US either. Donโt mind some money going to the Australian economy. (I feel similarly towards Canada and Mexico)
We use Pipedrive and I can we wholeheartedly recommend it. For project management this is missing InLoox, which is a known quantity in German speaking countries.
Thanks for the feedback. InLoox has been added to the database: https://buy-european.net/category/project-management-software Please note that we mistakenly put Pipedrive in the infographic in the first version due to Imprint confusion. The company is based in New York and we therefore replaced it with "efficy".
Noooo, not Pipedrive! Welp, I guess we'll look into alternatives now.
YouTrack is great. I wish more companies would consider it instead of Jira.
I think its more actionable if the left column is labeled "American". I can't imagine that many public sector workplaces are very excited to be using American controlled software and sending all their national defense data to Trump's fiefdom.
It's not just American software in the infographic. We want to showcase European alternatives for lots of products and companies, not just American.
Atlassian (Jira, Confluence) is Australian.
pCloud for another Dropbox alternative.
