Knives out. Great movie never expected that performance. Knives out 2, glass onion. Starting to get convoluted but still a nice movie. Bullet train. Just a fun rump.

Akira. First time watching it. Only had dub available. It was not what i expected, but it was fine.

If you fancy another animated classic there is “ghost in the shell (1995)”, that’s assuming you haven’t already seen it. Wasn’t a fan of akira myself but appreciate the art from it. However, I love ghost in the shell.

If anyone here likes Japanese animation and hasn't seen Satoshi Kon's work, specifically Perfect Dark and Paprika, stop what you're doing right now and fix that.

Last night I watched Red Room (2023) which was excellent, one of the scariest movies I've seen in ages, and not a moment of gore.

Couple days ago I watched Todd Haynes' Far From Home (2003) without knowing ahead of time that it was a remix of Douglas Sirk's 50s melodramas, but it was a really pleasant surprise. It inspired me to watch Fassbinder's Ali: Fear Eats The Soul which I unsurprisingly enjoyed a little less as I've never been quite able to connect with his more bleak takes on relationships.

Bladerunner. I was very underwhelmed, especially with all the hype surrounding the movie.

Yeah, it's not for everyone. Visually amazing though. But not for me.

Ainda estou aqui or "im still here" as it is known in english. It is out in cinemas now. It is based on a true story and a stark reminder of why we should not forget history. It was really well done and I recommend it to everyone. The whole cinema was silent watching it.

I watched the Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, which was wonderful, but could have been wonderfuller.

I watched:

  • The Wild Robot. I was hoping for something along the lines of Wall-E, and was disappointed. The Wild Robot doesn't have that kind of broad appeal. It's aimed at children only, and it's pretty shallow.
  • Heretic. Very good mood building and pacing. Good acting. I enjoyed it, but I didn't quite feel like the last parts held together well. Pretty good movie though.
  • Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. A bit of light-weight fun. This kind of movie doesn't demand the kind of precision that Heretic needs - which is good, because certainly don't have it! But I think it did a decent job of being what it was trying to be; a good sequel to the first movie. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would based on what I'd read.

Fight or Flight

So far this week I watched The Bikeriders and Nickel Boys. Both amazing movies.

Movies I've watched this week:

  • Cry Danger (1951)
  • MADs
  • Woman of the Hour
  • Outland

I enjoyed Cry Danger the most.
