My download and upload bandwidth rates are not equal.

Or some random hobby vs the small work we need to do

10 hour project that's interesting vs doing the laundry

This is me with selfhosting. I can manage my server for one minor issue all day but having to write kills me.

I for sure spent a solid 15 hours trying to sort out which game mods were causing a problem after adding ~50 at once..

Turned out to be the runner I was using through lutris.. just not quite right.

I can do that, sure, but cleaning cat boxes which takes all of 10 minutes? Making myself food, from the freezer? Loading the dishwasher? Nahh, can’t do those.

I can handle an info dump, but if you try and tell me about your day I'll fucking kill myself.

Just drop into screensaver mode. You don't actually have to retain what they say. They will enunciate keywords to remember. Just nod and think of samurai pizza cats or whatever.

Or communicate that you aren't listening. I would want to know, as the speaker, that my words are going in one ear and out the other.

I sometimes end up, what started as small talk, in these long talks with strangers opening up to me. Most people need to vent so I ask follow up questions, but after trauma dumping on me, which I'm super interested in, they get to a part of a story I'm bored with and I feel bad telling them: Ty for opening up completely to me, a random stranger, but you're boring me now so...bye.

Actually having to listen to a real person who can tell when you aren't paying attention is so much more taxing than pretending to absorb information from a screen.

Because they're too often and consistently wrong? 🥲

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 40 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Careful there. Going through life with that mindset will prevent you from learning and growing.

Don't discount any idea until you've picked it apart.

Yeah, people are dumb, but if you assume you're always right, you will be too.

Not all ideas are good, but a good idea can come from anywhere.

1.) Totally and completely in jest, and from the experienced view as lifelong captain of this meat-ship powered by an ADHD warp core. I do not disagree.

2.) Let us not forget the immortal words of Saint Tommy, "A person can be smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals."

What's funny is that I was thinking about that quote immediately after I typed my comment.
