Yeah, when people say it's a relaxing game, I'm like, are we playing the same game?

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

After the first year it is.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Not for qi quests

I think the problem is everyone feeling the need to achieve certain things like finishing the community center in a year or making a lot of money in a year by growing a ton of crops that take a ton of time to water. You don’t need to do any of that—but it sort of feels like you’re supposed to? Otherwise the game can move a bit too slow because so much content is locked behind the community center. I can’t seem to snap out of that mindset, as much as I want to

everytime i play i do the same thing

  1. stress out about making money
  2. stress out about completing the community center
  3. when i finally finish it, i'm too burnt out to do anything else

It's become a matter of pride to complete the community centre in the first year. It actually causes me stress if I don't manage.

I fished for a whole year. Had a bench and a little walled off area. That was nice.

I don't think I'll ever play SDV again without a time extension mod. It just gets too stressful for me.

The only mods I require are the run speed and decent sprinklers.

[–] other_cat@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Run speed is indispensable, I agree.

[–] zipzoopaboop@lemmynsfw.com 1 points 1 week ago

Working through sprinklers upgrades are like the core of my objectives whenever I play, it's like going from lower to upper class with all the time you save and then do whatever you want

Freeze that time baby!! First playthru was on switch. I had no idea what i was missing out on with mods.

[–] DWin@feddit.uk 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh is there a mod where you only "spend" time when actually doing an action like farming? Not just travelling and talking?

[–] wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yep, there's a few. Most are general time speed adjusters that allow very fine grained tuning, where you can pause time or change the speed per map.

I use Time Master, as it also allows you to just pause on demand with the pause/break key.

I've got mine set to half speed everywhere except in the farm house, but I'll probably tweak it some more. I'm playing with over 1000 mods because I'm insane, and I'm still tweaking my settings.

[–] DWin@feddit.uk 1 points 1 week ago

Ah that is pretty cool, I've never tried any mods at all. From time with FO3 and FNV I'd spend more time installing mods than playing the game haha.

I think the thing about Time Master there is that I'd abuse the heck out of pausing time. I think the perfect bit would be pausing it during certain times, so you still have the limitation there, just a lot softer. Perhaps just doubling the time would be enough for that.

I hate how "Cozy" is being used as a genre because coziness is subjective. And there is an irony that SDV is hailed as THE cozy game while it has a timer and combat, which disqualify it as a cozy game nowadays.

its just the same.. so hard to manage my time irl and in stardew valley. and i havent mention about enjoying life, like just walking around

I'm totally guilty of this, but when I take a step back... I don't think there is much of a long-term time constraint. I think you can also recover from any setback. It's really a mind game in terms of whether it is relaxing or not. But if I pass out, don't let Joja know.
