The Moomins is a franchise created by finnish author/illustrator Tove Jansson. It features a vast amount of comics, TV series, movies, books and games, telling various stories mostly set in moominvalley.

It's usually safe to assume that any creature you encounter in a Moomin story, has no real-world equivalent unless otherwise stated.

And even when there is, Janssons versions of real creatures often look wildly stylized, or simply different.
