If you seriously wanted peace this wouldn't be a concern.

[–] huppakee@lemm.ee 1 points 19 hours ago

That'd be true if both parties would actually want what they say they want, not if either party is untrustworthy and has a record of breaking agreements.

I don't get it. Putin wants the land, their neutrality, to stop any weapon sales, for them not to join any alliance. And what does Ukraine get, besides eventual second invasion?

[–] MITM0@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago

They get Putin

[–] Oaksey@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We are already up to the second invasion, in recent times.

[–] PixelatedSaturn@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

True, we would be talking of a third invasion. Depends if you count paramilitary units that invaded Donbass after the occupation of Crimea. In that case it would be the fourth invasion.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

What do you mean, Ukraine gets?

Putin probably.

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago

They're inflating this because Russia can't let the war end quickly for his own safety.

EU Leaders promptly replied with a joint statement: "Or, what, exactly?"

[–] ours@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Something something red line. Something something nuclear war. Same old boring saber-rattling which translates to "stop defending yourself!"

Or Donald trump's ceasefire deal goes up in flames. No big loss there tho

[–] Oaksey@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Resolved in one day as promised

[–] Rin@lemm.ee 5 points 1 day ago

I mean, it did go up in flames in one day

[–] Prior_Industry@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Art of the deal

Congrats to the EU. With the destabilization of one of it's largest allies it seems the most of the continent is uniting to make up the difference. Seems like Europe as a whole will dominate the next few decades

[–] reev@sh.itjust.works 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We have our own unique blend of fascist movements in every country, unfortunately. Right now it's still manageable but it's not all sunshine and rainbows either.

Don't want to get all doomer, I'm very hopeful and proud to be European, but I do want to set realistic expectations. People need to fight the good fight and not rest on their laurels.

[–] arrow74@lemm.ee 14 points 1 day ago

Luckily the common parliamentary system does seem more effective at slowing them down

[–] MITM0@lemmy.world -1 points 19 hours ago

They'll dominate alright, just not in a positive way

[–] sfxrlz@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 day ago

If we don’t manage to royally screw it up… Brexit pun intended

Best fucking investment ever! Definitely going to return multiples on the investment. Puttie's little massive scam be "booming" like Russian weapon depots!
