I cancelled my Uber last night because it was a Tesla

I won't even get in one. Buy one???? You're shitting me right?

[–] PeteZa@lemm.ee 5 points 4 days ago

Glad I’m not the only one who would refuse a Tesla Uber.

No, not even if Elon divested.

Teslas are bad cars. They are unsafe cars. They are very expensive for what they do.

They are electric, but there are better, cheaper electric cars.

They are also highly connected cars, which unfortunately is the same as all current cars.

My ideal next car would be a 2015 Accord, with no GSM/LTE connectivity.

[–] rippersnapper@lemm.ee 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Exactly, even minus the Nazi thing they are terrible products. And they’ve been terrible for a while. The only good things were the first mover advantage, battery tech and supercharger network.

Meanwhile the competitors like BYD have caught up.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 days ago

I don't get how they allowed the handles to not actually open the doors.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 8 points 3 days ago

Still? I never even considered it. Expensive, poor quality.

[–] DigitalNirvana@lemm.ee 7 points 3 days ago

I hated Tesla in 2018, and I still hate them to this day.

[–] rauls4@lemm.ee 29 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Shit. I wouldn’t buy one before Leon let the nazi out because they don’t support CarPlay, imagine now.

[–] Stanley_Pain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Don't know if Leon was an autocorrect or not but it doesn't matter because I'm calling him that from now on 😎

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 14 points 4 days ago (1 children)

He hates having his name mispronounced, so we say anything but: Leon, Lonnie, Ellie (he really hates that one)...etc.

[–] ObsidianZed@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Pronouncing Elon like Ellen.

[–] EvilBit@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I wonder if we can build a secondary market for lightly used tesla components and electrify a bunch of classic vehicles instead.

I'd love to electrify my old element.

[–] invertedspear@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I Would fucking love an affordable EV kit for Jeep wrangler TJs. While we’re dreaming, Honda Goldwings/Valkyries also, though that couldn’t start from a Tesla. I really want an electric motorcycle with a more classic road bike look instead of a sport bike.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

EV kit for Jeep wrangler TJs

yeah I think there's a lot of utility still out there in these frames, would be a shame to shit can them all.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 days ago

If now you buy a new Tesla, whatever happens, it's on you yourself.

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 14 points 4 days ago (3 children)

I wouldn't take one for free

[–] Evrala@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

I'd definitely take one for free.

Immediately sell it to carmax or carvana or wherever.

The money from even one of the older ones would do me a lot of good even with the trade in value of all teslas cratering right now.

[–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

If I was gifted one I’d host a smash the Tesla neighborhood party.

Free admission, sledgehammers provided.

[–] rosco385@lemm.ee 6 points 4 days ago

At least remove the batteries first, they're useful.

My car is over a decade old. If I got a free Tesla, I'd still just sell it

[–] ABetterTomorrow@lemm.ee 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

lol no. There’s more cons than pros to other brands. A tonka truck from toys r us is better built.

[–] odelik@lemmy.today 3 points 3 days ago

Daaaammmnnnn. A closed, and bankrupt toy company makes better cars.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Even if you're one of the troglodytes who is fine with Musks fascist politics, the risk of getting your car vandalized would be problematic. I dont know now why anyone would buy a tesla anymore. Other cars have full self driving too, while tesla does not, although they've been promising to have it soon for 8 years now. They are not the technology leader in that area. Waymo, Cruise, and Mobileye are all far ahead of Tesla.

[–] crystalmerchant@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Not a big question, and no I would not

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 15 points 4 days ago

I’ve always been a bit disturbed at the sheer volume of telemetry they collect.

I was happy that Tesla existed, as it helped give the auto industry the kick in the pants it needed, but I can never see myself actually buying one. My next car won’t be domestic.

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago

No. I'm embarrassed to be driving one now .

[–] ptc075@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 days ago

No.

But to be clear, somewhere over the last 20 years it seems I've also fallen out of the middle class? I bought a new car fresh out of college, and then again about 10 years later. But I look at the price of new cars today, and they're simply not a purchase I can afford. So, it looks like I'm not going to be buying any new cars anymore, Tesla or otherwise. That feels weird.

[–] Mad__vegan@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago

Nope, so happy I bought a bolt last year.

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I was at a Buc-cee's today, an incredibly busy spring break Saturday. The entire row of Tesla chargers were all lined up pointed nose out, with most of them occupied, watching the people and cars in front of them.

I drove past them slowly, giving the bird the entire way. I don't know how many saw, but a few must have.

It was childish and petty, but satisfying. I regret nothing.

[–] PeteZa@lemm.ee 5 points 4 days ago

Saddest part is how they all convince themselves that you’re just jealous. They just think they’re so god damn special.

[–] rebelsimile@sh.itjust.works 10 points 4 days ago

I’ve been driving electric for 10 years now and fuck no, never.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

"Still" implies I was ever going to buy a Tesla. :)

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 8 points 4 days ago

lol nope.

I am happy with my 2021 Seat Leon FR PHEV hatchback.

[–] NimdaQA@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

My good ‘friend’, Ramzan Kadyrov had his cybertruck remotely disabled by Elon Musk.

That is enough reason to not buy a Tesla, no?

[–] 4vr@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 days ago
[–] lupusblackfur@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

The Big Answer: Not on Your Nelly!!

Pfft...

As if... 🙄 🤡 🖕 🖕

[–] MoonRaven@feddit.nl 6 points 4 days ago

No. I have a 2021 model 3 that I bought in 2022. If I sold it, it'd be at a loss since I still have a loan for it. Back then it was still the car to get for the money.

Again, no. I would not buy one now. Fuck no.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 days ago

I'll buy it's battery after scrappers rip the car apart.
