Yeah... I think I'm less upset they changed the type of game... and more that it's just creatively bankrupt cash-grab nonsense.
what's even more wild is that it's pay to play too.
That's what happened to that cancelled TimeSplitters reboot, too.

Dancing through the wreckage of a beloved Bungie IP, Durandal was ~~laughing~~ fuming.
The aesthetic is impeccable, but I can't even begin to see anything from the trailer that makes this stand out as an MP shooter? I was already not interested in the slightest because I'm just not down for any sort of GaaS these days, I want single player experiences, but WTF was that?
They threw in some kinda line about death not being the end ... in 2025? Death and rebirth is not a new thing. Go play Deathloop instead, I think it's tragically underrated and the MP can be totally ignored if you like, although its asymmetric design is also interesting if you want to engage with it.

Other than the setting, this was the only reference to the original trilogy that I spotted, and man... the way it's used here is just so disconnected from what made that line iconic and cool. I was cautiously optimistic before, but the media blitz they did today has completely killed any hope I had for the Marathon IP.
The marathon story is so good
There was what appeared to be a Spht Compiler in the other story trailer but I am also starting to wonder where the hell all the actual lore bits are.
That trailer made it look like Destiny 2 crucible. Complete with hunters going invis to one shot you without warning.
I was hesitantly optimistic over the past years. Maybe it would be a story driven game like Destiny, but in larger PvPvE maps. But now just looks like a generic extraction shooter done in Destiny crucible style
The artstyle is great, the animation... ouch
No seriously though, there's a lot of places it looks like a personal art project. But the aesthetic is awesome and the setting looks interesting.
eveything about this looks generic af to me.
What is the point of having this called Marathon. It has exactly zero in common with the original games. Looks completely different, plays completely different, setting is completely different, storyline seemingly completely irrelevant, plus I'd wager the number of people who fondly remember the original and are also interested in playing a knock off extraction shooter on PS5 is pretty close to zero.
I'm convinced Bungie is still chasing the specter of eSports PvP. So, they're "adapting" their PvE square peg to fit in a PvEvP round hole.
This has flop written all over it. Why can Marathon get contextual ping but Destiny doesn't? How do you make a loot chase where you might loose all your loot in a round?

Haters be damned, this looks slick as hell and I will gladly pay for it.
It might be good. It's just kind of insulting to use the Marathon IP for this. Still, I'm happy for anyone who ends up liking it.

Quite the opposite.
Well good luck for them getting any players. Even free Extravtion shooters are failing to get people to stick. Here before this goes ftp with battlepass and prob lootboxes xD.
Im assuming the base paid version will still have battlepasses and lootboxes.
Visuals look stunning, gameplay looks like everything else we've seen. What's the hook?
Its obvious going off the cinematic trailer that making this another fucking live service game was a mistake. Lots of neat visuals and implied narrative being wasted.
