When you all giving up NHL?

A league that has a vast majority of American teams, American oligarch owners, American head office, millionaire American League boss, American sponsorships, American advertisements, American everything.

There is loads of local Canadian hockey available yet here we are. Rejoicing and cheering at Americanized Canadians playing "our" sport. Attending games, Posting and commenting, watching and buying merch, subscribing, making millionaires and billionaires.

So when are you giving up the NHL?

I'm streaming games.

Though, arguably depending on the network, that may actually just be hurting Canadians.

NHL revenue is based on merch (okay, easy to boycott) gate sales (again, easy enough) and tv licensing which has already been paid this season for the next however many years.

Watching a game on a Canadian owned network like TSN mostly just helps Canadians, possibly some minor adjustment in the next licensing deal but pretty goshdarned marginal as most of the movement on those is driven by anticipation of growth in foreign markets.

I support the Montreal Canadiens, my team is 100% canadian owned, I watch it on canadian broadcasting, I refuse to watch it on american channels/prime.

I also support the Montreal Victoire, the Trois Rivières Lions, the Blainville Armada, The Laval Rockets, the Canadian National team etc Outside of hockey, I also support my local basketball / football teams and am looking forward to follow the Roses inaugural season

Local sports channels like TSN / RDS rely heavily on the NHL to stay viable so by saying let's drop our support for the NHL, you're also advocating hurting these channels which in turn removes cash flow from them to support smaller events.

You want to support Canadian sports, please do. Go see your local games, advocate for more air time, follow teams and share on social media but until a true contender to the NHL comes, one that banks on Canadian teams only, the NHL is where men professional hockey happens.

The Victoire are on fire. I have a feeling they will be the champs this season.

Yeah I just hope Desbiens stays healthy but Poulin has been her usual self and Stacey is on a streak. The new girls are great too.

Still mad about Vanisova going to Ottawa but at the same time a more balanced league is probably better for the sport.

Can't wait to see what are gonna be the expansion teams!

I am down in New Mexico, so we have nothing in the way of teams here. But from the sounds of things Denver will get one (I know this is counter productive to the overall thread).

What Canadian alternative is there? Pwhl is great, but there aren't any teams out west by me, and it's just like the Nhl in that it's mixed of Canadian and American. Same with the Ahl, and once you start going lower than that you see a drop in skill and speed, since they're not as good yet/younger players. A Whl game is cheap entertainment, but it's no replacement for the Nhl.

PWHL is expanding next year. With how well it did this year I bet we see at least 4 teams added, if not 6.

That would be good news, pwhl is a ton of fun the watch.

I live in the UK. I catch maybe one game a year. Always end of Feb. And I only watch by pirate stream. Ain't no danger I'm paying an extra £45/mnth for the sports channels that occasionally air hockey games. Canucks are my home team. Puck drop is 1am my time. I've already essentially gave it up. Not like we're going to win....and if we get close? Not like I'm able to riot like all the folk back home.....
