Trump talking in 2024:

  • "dictator on day one"
  • "you won't have to vote again"

Am I suppose to be surprised?

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 23 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (1 children)

I believe I was banned from r/donald in 2016 because I posted after the election something like, "trump 2024."

Was told I was a troll.

Nope. It was clear since day 1 after the primaries.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 7 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Don't worry they're now doing deep reflection on their president and will recognize ah fuck I can't finish that with anything funny.

Lemmy try:

Don’t worry they’re now doing deep reflection on their president and will recognize the weight of the constitution- nope nope. Its all shit.

I was hoping 1946-2025. He’s going to destroy everything good in this world by 2028

[–] lmmarsano@lemmynsfw.com 8 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

When will they start selling armbands?

Hmmm. Good point. Seems like they're leaving something on the table here. Guess it's time to get a website up and running.

[–] xorollo@leminal.space 25 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Is that a real store? Has trump officially started his campaign for 2028? It's so hard to tell jokes from reality.

[–] 0x01@lemmy.ml 35 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Yes it's the official store, it’s real, and he has been quite explicit about running for a third term.

[–] xorollo@leminal.space 9 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (2 children)

You're right, he has been explicit. It's a weird time to bring it up again though, right? Like he still has a lot of time. There's plenty of terrible news flooding the media. Maybe he thinks he needs four years of normalizing this idea to make it happen? Or maybe he thinks he will embolden his base by giving them a meme hat to try to bully everyone who keeps pointing out that they're terrible people?

Edit: also is it weird for a president to have a brand store? I mean, I know Trump always has, hence why this wasn't the first piece of weirdness that occurred to me. But it IS weird, right?

[–] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 8 points 16 hours ago

Carter couldn't keep his farm but Trump? Oh he can sell merchandise!

[–] sawdustprophet@midwest.social 3 points 16 hours ago

It's a weird time to bring it up again though, right? Like he still has a lot of time.

Not too weird considering he held his first rally for reelection less than a month after taking office in 2017.

The 22nd Amendment of the United States Constitution states “no person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice”.

Were Trump to run, states are obliged to not place him on the ballot and ignore his candidacy.

If Trump cannot run, yet still seeks the office, it is safe to infer his intention to steal the presidency. Thus making him a fugitive, traitor, and enemy of the people.

[–] Stillwater@sh.itjust.works 40 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

States were obligated to block him from the ballot based on the insurrection clause, but here we are

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 6 points 17 hours ago

Multiple states tried to take him off the ballot and we're fired not to.

[–] paranoid@lemmy.world 11 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (3 children)

I read somewhere that his only "legal" option for becoming president for another term is by running as the vice presidential candidate, and then having whoever was voted for president resign. He wouldn't technically be elected to the presidency, and thus could exploit a loophole.

That being said, I'm certain it would be challenged in court. The fact that it could even get that far is pretty disheartening

Edit: as someone pointed out in the replies, this would not be allowed under the 12th amendment

[–] WhiteRabbit_33@lemmy.world 14 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Luckily the 12th amendment prevents that.

But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States

https://constitution.congress.gov/constitution/amendment-12/

[–] paranoid@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago

I did not know that, thank you. That provides at least some relief!

[–] BrokenGlepnir@lemmy.world 5 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

If you are not allowed to run for president I don't think you are allowed to run for vice president. Speaker of the house however ...

[–] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 1 points 16 hours ago

There's a precedent where someone would have been skipped in the chain as replacement for the president because they weren't born in the US.

[–] paranoid@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

Yeah, another commenter linked the part of the 12th amendment that says anyone constitutionally ineligible to run for president may not run as VP. That's quite a relief

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 5 points 20 hours ago

That's not the only option.

He could have the president killed. Doesn't have to just make him resign.

[–] Wilco@lemm.ee 21 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

What a fucking traitor.

That's probably what he was privately polling the state governors for, to see if he had the votes to amend.

Bad news ... it would be an Obama/Trump ticket if they allowed more than two terms again.

[–] flicker@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

I really really really don't want them to amend. I really, really don't.

But I'm about... ninety percent certain that if I see an Obama versus Trump election, I'll need whoever breaks the news to me to be recording, because the mad laughter that erupts from me will soon be as ubiquitous as the Wilhelm scream.

"What sound shall we use here to signify pure insanity?" "Ah, yes, queue up the flicker laughter."

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

No they worded the amendment very specifically, it's two consecutive terms is the cutoff for whether you get a third term.

[–] Wilco@lemm.ee 2 points 18 hours ago

They can word it however they like. They will never get two thirds from both the house and senate.

Trump knows this, so he is going to try and "cheese" it and have Vance run with Trump as VP, hope they win, and then have Vance resign.

  1. Vance is gonna fuck Trump over if this happens.
  2. Trump is excluded from being the VP, he can't go on the ballot.

He may also try some "Speaker of the House" fuckery. Dictators are gonna try and dictate.

Trump knows that if someone tries to take office illegally then that person can actually be attacked as a domestic threat to the Constitution ... and it is perfectly legal for any US citizen to do it.

Made in China

[–] Gowron_Howard@lemm.ee 10 points 20 hours ago

It would be hilarious if the Chinese companies making these shitty swag items cut him off.

[–] nxn@biglemmowski.win 10 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

I think an application of some orange face spray would do well to complete the look:

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 10 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

Ask yourself, "would your founding fathers approve or disapprove you bear macing a wanna be king of America in the fucking face." Then just follow your heart.

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 1 points 18 hours ago

It really isn't hard to extract pure capsaicin from peppers. Slap that shit in a bottle with alcohol, get a pressurized sprayer, and then let 'em have it.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 11 points 21 hours ago

... swastika on your forehead.

Mansonesque forehead carvings are next.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 11 points 21 hours ago

$50? No wonder he’s negotiating with Xi now.

[–] itsgroundhogdayagain@lemmy.ml 7 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

What really evil stuff is he going to do while everyone is outraged over a hat?

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

Apparently he's just walking around the white house lawn and lying about being in trade talks with china while russia disrespects him by undermining peace talks.
