Trump’s comments are clearly directed at China, which is importing more than 1 million barrels per day from Iran, said Scott Modell, CEO of consulting firm Rapidan Energy. Modell said U.S. sanctions are unlikely to have an impact on Iranian oil flowing to China unless the White House targets Beijing’s state-owned enterprises and infrastructure.

So clearly he's not getting his head around the idea that China is willing to cut us off if we start making demands.

Either that, or he's trying to gain leverage for the tariff talks, and only has the one idea.

How do I buy Iranian oil? Asking for a friend

[–] JustTesting@lemmy.hogru.ch 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Actually, having like a 10ml can of iranian crude oil as a conversation piece would be fun.especially if it comes in a mini barrell that just says 'Iranian Oil' on it, maybe with an added 'Warning: May cause sanctions if used incorrectly' label

I imagine that the Iranians aren’t telling the US who they sell to and the buyers aren’t either.

The world has decided they’d rather cut ties with the US market than bend to their will with insane trade wars. I don’t know how he’s not getting that but he isn’t.

Rather than bend to Trump's will, yes. The US can wield significant influence globally when its power is exerted skillfully, but everyone knows Trump's decision-making is capricious and inconsistent, so they treat him as an unreliable partner. They know whatever agreement they come to with him could be thrown away the next day, so they just aren't going to negotiate anymore

See that’s why I kind of love this. I don’t live in the US and the US hegemony that has been destroying the world for generations is crumbling under the stupidity of their new champion.
