I don’t understand how algorithms work so I will blame men

Yes that’ll fix it

I very frequently have problems where I ask Siri “Hey Siri, play X from the album Y by Z”, and Siri goes “Ok! Playing A by B!”

I love this comic strip as a whole, but yeah. Gender is not the anvil upon which to pound this.

I was going to say that I'm a bit surprised that the characters use Apple products, given their (the characters') politics.

I'm not the biggest fan of Google, but I still have a Pixel and use Google Maps. It's not always easy (enough) to shape your purchases to your preferences exactly.

There is no ethical consumption under Capitalism anyway, so it's all shades of grey.

Well, I don't use G either. Or Microsoft. I did used to have a Home back when they first came out, but Google started being obvious about being evil around that time and I gave it to my MIL.

Echo, Siri, Google - they're all bad, and even less necessary than smart phones. You can make a decent, quantifiable argument about the quality-of-life differences a smart phone, wisely used, can make. There are few, mostly accessability related, arguments for the whole-home surveillance devices. They're absolutely a boon for accessability, and I wouldn't take that away, but otherwise it's a minor convenience most of the world manages to live without.

Damning the man is one thing, giving up a convenience is another.

[–] sxan@midwest.social 3 points 2 days ago

And that's all it is: a capitalist, predatory, minor convenience. Again, I'm surprised these characters use them.

Agreed. Siri (and auto-generated playlists in general) sucks for a lot of reasons, and gender almost certainly in there, but I doubt it is the primary driver.

I had this "problem" with Spotify, I fixed it by putting my daughter's music in its own playlist which I configured to "Exclude from my taste profile". Maybe something similar exists for Siri/Apple music?

[–] Maven@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Holy shit when was this added!? I've been needing this for so long!

I also really badly want a way to delete a song from my history as well since my bf likes to send me shit music to annoy me (I love him) and sometimes it fucks with my recommendations

[–] cutofmyjib@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

You can configure an individual song to be excluded from your taste profile, it'll be like you never played it.

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Doubtful, the "Exclude from taste profile" thing is actually rather new, it wasn't there before because I've looked for something like it before.

I have a playlist dedicated to archiving the "Discover Weekly" for when I get around to it and it always screwed with the "taste profile" until recently when I noticed there was now that exclude option. Though I don't know when it actually rolled out lol

[–] cutofmyjib@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 days ago

Yeah I think it's recent and I'm really grateful because my Discover Weekly would be 90% my vibe and then randomly a cheery broadway musical would play lol. Nothing wrong with that genre, but after a calm instrumental song it's a bit jarring haha.

Oh right lol. I forgor...

Nothing has changed from reddit. Y'all can't take the slightest joke about guys without melting down.

[–] Cypher@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I’m curious what about my response was having a meltdown?

[–] nl4real@lemmy.world -4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You're more focused on the wording than the actual point.

[–] Cypher@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

What do you think the point was? Just so we’re on the same page here.

[–] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There are two whole comments that even mention it, and neither of them is close to "melting down". Are you sure you don't just want that to be the case?

[–] nl4real@lemmy.world -3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They're the only comments in the thread with double digit upvotes. Seems to have touched a nerve. Admittedly a rather tame example given most of the other gender discussions I've seen on this site.

[–] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Hey, it's alright, stop melting down

Nothing has changed from reddit, low effort trolls everywhere.

Talking to robots is always lame, and denigrating to the human being who speaks to the inanimate.
