Maybe I have sensitive gums or something like that, but eating the cereal right after I add the milk makes my mouth hurt.

The growing number of people without teeth is worrying.

[-] ares35@kbin.social 11 points 10 months ago

many insurance plans and health care programs don't cover 'luxury bones'.

I think there is a sweet spot when the cereal has absorbed a bit of milk and softened, but still has a little crunch, and the milk has absorbed some flavour from the cereal. However, if you leave it too long, you'll end up with a soggy mass, which is shit. It also depends on the cereal a bit. I think nice muesli or granola usually needs a bit more softening than a lighter cereal like corn flakes or coco pops, but the latter do benefit from turning the milk sweet or chocolatey when left to soak.

Of course, like everything else in this world, we are destined to fight over it as if there are only two choices; maximum soggy and maximum crunchy.

Everyone else is crazy. There is an ideal middle point.

[-] kozy138@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago

This guy cereals.

[-] thegreatgarbo@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Maximum soggy please.

[-] CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.world 13 points 10 months ago

Upvoted for unpopular! If it gets soggy it’s no longer edible, and it means I took too long to eat it.

[-] ares35@kbin.social 5 points 10 months ago

the war between milk and cereal is a series of small skirmishes, not a big epic battle. a little cereal, a little milk. a little more cereal to finish off the milk. a little more milk because you put in too much cereal. and repeat until either the box or the jug is empty.

[-] IndiBrony@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Pour cereal directly into mouth. Add milk. Swallow. 👍

[-] ivanafterall@kbin.social 1 points 10 months ago

I'm not an animal. I dig it out a handful at a time, shovel it into my mouth hole, swig of milk, repeat.

[-] moistclump@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

You know what I do? Pour a bowl of milk and then only add in a couple spoonfuls of cereal at a time. No risk of sogginess and no concerns about the ratios.

Life changing.

[-] thegreatgarbo@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Easy there Satan.

[-] BlueDepth9279@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago

I agree with how unpopular this is! I’d rather have cereal with no milk than soggy cereal.

[-] ares35@kbin.social 2 points 10 months ago

some make a great snack, right out of the box.

there used to be, back in the 1990s, things like jumbo-sized froot loops sold as snack foods.

[-] echo64@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

nope. I use my teeth to eat cereal though

[-] CmdrShepard@lemmy.one 4 points 10 months ago

Are you eating Captain Crunch? That's the only cereal I've ever had that consistently cuts your mouth up. I don't really eat cereal anymore but when I do nothing tops Cheerios.

[-] Narrrz@kbin.social 4 points 10 months ago

I don't even add milk to my cereal. I just eat it totally dry.
yes, even weet-bix. especially weet-bix.

[-] dgriffith@aussie.zone 1 points 10 months ago

You haven't lived until you've eaten dry weetbix with margarine and Vegemite slathered on top.

[-] folkrav@lemmy.ca 4 points 10 months ago

Gums? Why do you crush the cereals with your gums instead of biting with your teeth like you'd do with crackers? Do you take monster sized bites or something?

[-] andrewta@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

I agree with this one.

[-] Zellith@kbin.social 2 points 10 months ago

I sometimes wait for the cereal to go soggy just so I can add more milk. Fight me.

[-] AA5B@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Dude, I replace the milk with yogurt, so the cereal stays nice and crispy

[-] tissek@sopuli.xyz 2 points 10 months ago

I'm more appalled of your use of milk with cereal. Fil or yoghurt keeps the cereal's structure much longer and even when its soggy through and through there remains some firmness.

[-] ivanafterall@kbin.social 6 points 10 months ago

The true unpopular opinion is in the comments. :/

[-] folkrav@lemmy.ca 0 points 10 months ago

Cereal with yogurt (especially Greek yogurt!) is freaking delicious in its own right. Anything granola-like works great.

[-] ivanafterall@kbin.social 1 points 10 months ago

Okay, wait, yogurt with granola is NOT the same thing as cereal and milk. What on earth. That's Trump supporter logic.

[-] folkrav@lemmy.ca 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

If you're gonna paraphrase me, you may want to refrain from literally changing the meaning of my sentence. Did you miss the "in its own right", and the "granola**-like**"?

Also, needlessly rude, if not downright insulting, comparison...

[-] calavera@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago

I prefer it soggy so I put mine in the fridge for a few minutes before start eating

[-] FurtiveFugitive@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago

While I would argue 99% of kitchen gadgets are dumb, wastes of space and resources, I will forever swear by having a cereal bowl with separate milk reservoir. Adding cereal a couple spoons at a time let's me actually enjoy cereal at a reasonable pace and not worry about rushing it getting interrupted while eating it. If I didn't have one, I wouldn't eat cereal at all.

Mini wheats are much better sogged than fresh

[-] ThrowawayPermanente@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 months ago

But only slightly sogged, just enough to take the edge off

[-] droidpenguin@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Just the thought of soggy cereal makes me gag!

[-] DrRatso@lemmy.ml 1 points 10 months ago

Soggy beats crunchy any day, it just tastes better + the milk gets flavoured.

[-] Oneeightnine@feddit.uk 1 points 10 months ago

I think there's a difference between soggy cereal and dry cereal. If you've got milk in the bowl then most of the cereal that's also in the bowl should be (erm)...moist?

[-] not_that_guy05@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Not in first minutes of pouring and eating sharp as rocks fruit loops.

[-] folkrav@lemmy.ca 1 points 10 months ago

How soft are your teeth that Froot Loops are "sharp as rocks"? If anything they're pretty soft out of the box lol

[-] Mandy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 months ago

depends on the cereal to me

if its something like these frosties thingies? id like some crunch

if its these tiny pillows with chocolate inside? i want them as soft as a cloud
