I usually use use ThePirateBay for video media (Movies / TV shows).

EBook: Library Genisys

Audiobooks: Audiobook Bay

Android APK: Sometimes I just google the .apks (and .obb files), but if find it on the ones listed in the megathread, I use those first.

Not sure if I'm doing piracy correctly

Edit: And also, what file formats is best?

Like, video media is 99% of the time a .mkv, so I'm assuming thats the most popular. But is x264 or x265 better. Like, I don't want to waste storage or wait too long before I can watch something, so what is the best storage to quality size?

And eBooks, .pdf .mobi .epub .azw3 wtf I'm confused

Audiobooks, there are m4b, and mp3

There is one series of books that I can only find .azw3 on Libgen, and nothing on F-Droid even opens that file format.

Yea I think I don't know what I'm doing.

https://knaben.org/ for general torrents https://fmhy.net/ for everything else

I usually use use ThePirateBay for video media

Be wary of the fake torrents that may be listed as Movie.mp4.exe Movie.mkv.lnk Series.zipx and so one, I'd recommend you to open up your torrent client, I'm expecting Qbittorrent. Click on options > Click on the Downloads tab from the left then scroll down until you find Exclude File names, enable it by clicking the checkbox and add these -

.lnk
.mp4.lnk
.mp3.lnk
.mkv.lnk
.torrent.lnk
.scr
.zipx
.ink

Enabling these would automatically prevent your torrent client to download these files if you mistakenly add these torrents. You can add more or less extensions depending on your use case, like if you never torrent games or software, adding .exe to this list may be beneficial to you, so you don't accidentally download a fake torrent which has some sort of malicious executable inside.

Piratebay is usually considered unsafe, you'd be better off with trackers listed on here - https://fmhy.net/torrentpiracyguide#torrent-sites

EBook, Audiobooks

Private Torrent Tracker: MyAnonaMouse

Android apps

Mobilism or these sites - https://fmhy.net/android-iosguide#modded-apks

And also, what file formats is best?

Preference based, there's no best file format. It's often a battle of compatibility vs. usefulness. Like .mkv can have bundled-in subtitles and audio in multiple languages while mp4 is more compatible with older or less popular devices.

But is x264 or x265 better

x264 and x265 are video codecs btw. These also depend on the user's use case. If you have modern hardware and can run x265 or av1 encoded files with no problem then definitely go for them as they can save you a lot of space because of their great efficiency, but if your hardware struggles to play x265 or av1 files then go for x264 encoded files, as they are compatible on almost all devices old or new.

Not sure if I'm doing piracy correctly

There's no way of doing it correctly just follow basic instructions like using a good adblocker (Ublock Origin), use trusted sources mentioned in the megathread and scan your files with Virustotal.com or tria.ge if you think they are suspicious.

Also other than the megathread, there's this amazing resource called FMHY - https://fmhy.net/

They're don't just hold information regarding pirated stuff but general and free stuff too, not to mention they update it very often to keep it up to date. They even have options for backups - https://github.com/fmhy/FMHY/wiki/Backups

Ebooks are really easy to find. Anna's Archive and Zlib basically have every book you'd be looking for in their shadow libraries.

You can literally copy the whole megathread with some tools

Yea idk what tools to use so I'm just manually copying the "source" tab of the wikis so that the actual links get copied and not just the fancy hyperlink display text.

Like... its not all on one page, its multiple separate pages, so I have to go to each category to copy it, kinda annoying... 😓

Video container types (.mkv, .mp4) are different from encoding types (x264, 265)

For both, the “best” or “better” is gonna depend on your use case. .mkv is nice because they bundle multiple video tracks, audio tracks, and subtitle tracks all into one file, but .mp4 is pretty much guaranteed to be playable on anything (although the number of devices that don’t support .mkv is pretty small at this point)

x265 is nice because the quality:file size ratio is much better than x264, but again, compatibility is an issue because x265 is still somewhat new, so older devices probably won’t support it.

As you can probably tell, I prefer .mkv + x265 whenever possible, but that’s only because every device I own can play them

Same with audiobooks. The “classic” way is to have several MP3 files - 1 for each chapter. This allows them to be played even on dumb MP3 players.

However, the M4B format allows for more modern AAC and HE-AAC encoding and adds metadata such as chapters directly into the file. This results in the whole audiobook being contained in just one single file and with much better compression than MP3. But you’ll need a compatible player to listen to them.

(I’ve transcoded most of my audiobooks to M4B as a collection of 320kbps Stereo MP3s doesn’t make sense for just spoken content.)

  • epub is the best ebook format. Use Calibre to convert to it from e.g. azw3 (Amazon)
  • m4b > mp3. The former is better suited for audio books.
  • archive.org for archiving websites

"TRaSH-guides" into your favourite search engine. Even if you don't want to set up a *arr, the pros and cons of file format are discussed there.

Prowlarr suggests Knaben, then TheRARBG are my most successful sources of Linux ISOs.
