Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

"This artifact suggests that the two women, who were lifelong roommates, also enjoyed hobbies like sewing or papercraft together." — Future Archeologists, probably.

Subtle lesbian pride pins imply the existence of flagrant or direct lesbian pride pins

[–] alx@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 hour ago

[–] Broadfern@lemmy.world 6 points 4 hours ago

“I’m lesbian and I’m proud” in a nice enamel setting would be pretty direct, yeah?

"Is she... you know... into making her own clothes?"

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 37 points 6 hours ago

It's all about that plausible deniability.

Isn’t scissoring something that porn basically made up and no real-world lesbians actually do?

[–] saigot@lemmy.ca 37 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

My understanding (as a poly guy with a penis and many lesbian friends) is that Vag on Vag scissoring is not really viable, and nothing more than a novelty. But mutual vag to thigh, which also looks like scissors, is quite a good time but not like the number one first thing you'd go for. If you look closely at the pin, it looks like the latter more than the former.

Ahhh okay that makes sense

[–] kittenzrulz123@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I dont think porn made it up? (Obviously real life lesbian sex looks absolutely nothing like porn because that porn is designed for men)

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (1 children)

They made a fifth?

Edit: there’s a sixth one in the works, who is watching them? (I’m sorry that sounds judgy, I fucking love the step up movies, so I’m not one to talk)

[–] SouthEndSunset@lemm.ee 3 points 13 minutes ago (1 children)

FYI, there is a new Final Destination film out …

[–] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 1 points 2 minutes ago

When the fuck are they planning on getting to that destination?

[–] squirrel@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 4 hours ago

While "tribadism" (old term for various lesbian sexual positions, including scissoring) has been known since antiquity, scissoring itself has only been distinguished from other lesbian sexual positions in several sexologist studies in the 70s. Its prevalence was heavily debated even back then, but there was little doubt about its existence before the emergence of modern porn.
