Running off of their own logic here - tech bros and bullshit jobs were largely not a thing in Bible times, so we should abandon AI and Facebook.

Finanacial fuckery was heavily frowned upon by their main guy, to the point he flipped tables over it. Let’s eliminate all debt interest too, since that’s usury and a sin.

Rich people are going to hell, so let’s redistribute wealth and prioritize the poor, the sick, women and children. Y’know, to give the billionaires a chance at heaven.

They’re also pretty strictly told to stay tf out of government as well, since it’s not their world to inhabit and their inheritance is in the next life. So no theocracy, because that goes against their teachings. Stay within your churches and be relentlessly kind to your neighbors. Anyone who claims to be a “God-fearing, Bible following” Christian should step down from politics immediately.

Did I miss anything?

Usery (interest) is expressly forbidden in the New testament, so Christians couldn't give loans with interest. That's where the bad old banker stereotype for Jews comes from, as well, I imagine, as the bad old stereotypes of Jews as the wealthy elite secretly controlling society. They were, essentially, the finance bros of the geopolitical reality in old Europe, because nobody else could issue loans with interest. If we want to "get back to Christian values", then we need to ban charging interest.

If Americans want to mold themselves in Jesus' image of Christian perfection, the rich men in the world have to give to the poor, aka eat the rich.

Matthew Chapter 19, verses 21 to 24

Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me."

When the young man heard this, he went away in sorrow, because he had great wealth.

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.

Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

be careful with this one because the types of people this applies to will just twist its meaning into "people need to own less/nothing. Minimum wage is too high. The Bible says having enough money to survive is bad"

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 20 points 2 months ago

They twisted "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" which was an example of expecting the poor to do the impossible into blaming the poor. They will twist literally everything, so there is no reason to be careful.

I heard this preached at church a few weeks ago, the gist of it was, that Jesus knew how important being rich was to the man and until he let go of that, he could never let Love fully into his life

[–] fakeman_pretendname@feddit.uk 9 points 2 months ago (2 children)

The American Right-Wing Christians don't seem to care for Jesus - they appear to pretty much ignore everything in the New Testament because it's "lefty and woke". They do seem to like the Old Testament bits where you kill/enslave/rape/rob people who are weaker or slightly different from you.

[–] floo@retrolemmy.com 5 points 2 months ago

Oh, they like Jesus well enough to be huge fans of his “get out of jail free” card that comes with believing in him. That way, the most evil people in the world believe that they can get away with it in the afterlife, using this “one simple trick“.

[–] Genius@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

So that's why they love Israel so much! /joking

[–] dashjackson@techhub.social 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

@Rentlar You're not wrong, but the reality is the Christians in America (especially the ultra rich) are strictly there for performative purposes.

[–] HungryJerboa@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 months ago

Their half assed religion is yet another extension of their privilege and arrogance, and yet another reason why I would happily donate to whoever razes their way of life to the ground.

[–] JakenVeina@lemm.ee 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Love the followup to that verse.

Master, who then can be saved?

Jesus, internally: Oh, shit, good point, uhh...

What is impossible for man is not impossible for God.

Dude was just talking out his ass the whole time.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 months ago

Lol. But the overall point is, regardless of whatever you believe in, the common theme of moral teachings is to be good to others, not how many hours you should work or how many times one should be beaten for a transgression. Anything else gained from religious text or tradition is a speculative interpretation brought from the ancient to the modern context, and should be taken and understood as such.

Fox News is the onion except it’s a) not funny, and b). Fucking morons believe what’s on it

To capitalists, humans are nothing but tools to enrich themselves. That's why it's called "Human Resources". To them, you are literally nothing more: A resource to be exploited, like fruit from a fruit tree. They squeeze out the lemon to sell the juice and then throw the dry shell of the fruit to the composter.

What many rich people have is sociopathy, which means an absence of empathy and understanding for what it means to be human. We must remember to be human, whether you name that "socialism" or just better laws that are made for the people.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee -1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

There are rich people in every economy type. It's not just capitalism.

[–] gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

yeah, i agree, there are assholes everywhere. capitalism has just formalized and streamlined how-to-be-an-asshole. but there are other bad systems as well, of course.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee -1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

That's literally just the nature of money.
Root of all evil, and all that.

You're seeing the trees and not the forest.

[–] jenni007@lemm.ee 12 points 2 months ago

Only in America.

That man has a gun poking him in the back making him say this.

[–] breecher@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

Not necessary. They pay him a lot of money for saying it.

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 4 points 2 months ago

Yes because the only thing we're good for is optimal productivity. /s

And I bet they did 0% of their "research" with jobs like programming, accounting, teaching, or anything that isn't like a field or factory job.

[–] NotAGamer@lemmy.org 2 points 2 months ago

There is no God. It's a delusion and sign of mental illness.

[–] TTH4P@lemm.ee 2 points 2 months ago

I have this orange-ass blazer, but no accounting for taste on that tie....yeesh

[–] Philosaraptor7@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago

This, joined into their christian fascist neo-fundamentalist, pop evangelicalism.

Jesus would be some kinda anarchist- socialist.
