The New York Republican congressman, fabulist and criminal defendant George Santos said he would not seek re-election next year, after the US House ethics committee issued a report detailing “grave and pervasive campaign finance violations and fraudulent activity” and recommended action against him.

“I will NOT be seeking re-election for a second term in 2024 as my family deserves better than to be under the gun from the press all the time,” Santos said, calling the report “biased” and “a disgusting politicised smear”.

But after the report detailed his conduct, moves to introduce a new expulsion resolution began.

“Representative Santos sought to fraudulently exploit every aspect of his House candidacy for his own personal financial profit,” the committee said.

this man genuinely is a lying addict, his brain needs to be studied holy shit. like, theres no reason to lie - no one believes you. why do it? avoiding awkwardness?? we all know you have no chance winning an election again after the stars aligned for the biggest fluke in american history to land in one of the tighest houses in american history.

The term you are looking for: pathological liar

They truly cannot help it to some degree. Mentally ill at best

pathological liar

See: Donald J. Trump

[-] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 2 points 1 year ago

What needs to be studied is why people continue to vote for pathological liars even when their lies are totally obvious and directly related to their political agenda.

first past the post ----> two party system

[-] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 1 points 1 year ago

Yes but it's rare that both candidates are equally bad, or even close.

"Instead, I plan to declare my candidacy for the Imperial Senate, representing the planet Naboo"

[-] nrezcm@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

Nah he is going to run for the Senate out in Druidia. I mean his grandparents were Dru-ish after all. May the Schwartz be with you.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

That's funny, he doesn't look Druish....

He said he was Dru ish.

Whoever stood for this chucklefuck in the district primaries should be shot with a ball of their own shit.

[-] billwashere@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Well there is a mental image I won’t be able to unsee for a while. Not that I disagree….

"as my family deserves better than to be under the gun from the press all the time"

Bo-ho. If you had not done what you had, press would not care to investigate. But in typical Republican asshole manner, he pushes his family in front of him as the "victims".

a couple weeks ago he had a human baby he was using as a "CAN'T INTERVIEW ME IN THE HALLWAY" shield lol

[-] magnetosphere@kbin.social 21 points 1 year ago

This is George Santos we’re talking about. I’ll believe this once the election is over and he hasn’t been elected as a write-in or some bullshit like that.

He’ll probably find a way to get himself appointed to something anyway.

[-] vivadanang@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

he's gonna run for mayor of prison, watch.

[-] magnetosphere@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

That would be nice to see, especially after Trump has exhausted everyone’s patience and willingness to do favors.

[-] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago

How dare you even try to hold me accountable! I was told we weren't doing that anymore.

[-] bradorsomething@ttrpg.network 15 points 1 year ago

As one of the few astronaut-ai researcher representatives, it will be hard to see him go. However, I’m glad to see he’s leaving to focus more on his efforts to keep the earth safe from Skeletor and the forces of Cobra.

[-] vivadanang@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

I heard he was going to focus on his dance career and many non profits.

[-] dynamojoe@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

There won't be enough republicans who are willing to expel a fellow republican. The margin on their majority is very thin.

[-] ikidd@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Hell, in the last vote to sanction him, more Democrats than Republicans voted against the sanctions. I don't even know what the fuck that was all about.

[-] dynamojoe@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

I think the idea was "he's innocent until proven guilty" and removing him would start a bad precedent of ejecting people for illegitimate reasons. But now there's an ethics report from a bipartisan committee saying he's a bag of shit so they can say they've done their due diligence and claim it isn't a knee-jerk political decision.

I like how when federal congresspeople do wrong by their constituents, or even break the law, there's no way for their constituents to recall them and our federal legislature isn't functional enough to expel people who lie, incite insurrection, and have relations with underage people. Seems really healthy. There is no democracy in this country.

[-] reagansrottencorpse@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

There was never meant to be democracy for us unwashed masses here.

[-] milkjug@lemmy.wildfyre.dev 14 points 1 year ago

How dare you criticize the son of the late Queen and grandson of Abraham Lincoln. You show some damn respect for his bravery in World War I and his Intergalactic Medal of Honor.

[-] Rakonat@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

GOP, party of law, until one of their own is breaking the law, then they'd rather maintain majority rather than expel one of their own.

[-] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 3 points 1 year ago

They're always breaking laws, so they're never the party of law.

[-] RunawayFixer@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

The Party of Laws For Thee, But Not For Me?

[-] moonwalker@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Lol. I can't believe he was able to stay as long as he did. So bizarre.

[-] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Maybe he is in some kind of weird secret contest to see the craziest thing he can get away with. Him and trump both lol

[-] moonwalker@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

That would be hilarious

[-] alienanimals@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

George Santos should already be in jail for his pervasive fraud.

[-] 018118055@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 year ago

Fabulist is a wonderful word

[-] joel_feila@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

But he will keep any retirement benifits from having been in congress
