Not Onions?

[–] Frostbeard@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

They are staple flod in Norway, or used to be. To such an extent that one of the traditional christmas dishes has rutabaga/swede mash as a side dish.

Rich in vitamin C, so I have heard it being called the "Orange of the North"

43 and I've never heard of rutabaga.

Then I found out we just call them swedes, turnips, or neeps.

Edit: not turnips, just the other two.

On a side note, how do I strikethrough text?

You're 43 and never played super Mario 2?

A turnip and a rutabaga are different.

For strikethrough, just surround text with ~~

~~text~~

Becomes

~~text~~

40yo, here; I've heard of them via Loony Tunes, but I have never even seen a picture of one let alone seen them for sale (no turnips either). Closest thing I've seen are radishes.

Turnips are objectively more terrifying than pumpkins when carved for Halloween. That's their main fame.

Don't call me a vegetable!! 😭

At press time, Congress had reportedly voted to close the rutabaga loophole

I like them. And turnips. I use them alongside potatoes for a little extra flavor and varied texture. When mashed I call them turpaters.

[–] tal@lemmy.today 3 points 3 days ago

turpaters

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rutabaga

The species B. napus originated as a hybrid between the cabbage (B. oleracea) and the turnip (B. rapa).

Maybe "cabnips" or "turbages".
