Next week: the street price of tamales has shot up as enterprising cyclists have cornered the market and are selling tamales with no competition.

(That's just a sarcastic, cynical take. But seriously, good of these Chicagoans to help support their neighbors and keep them safe.)

I'm just saying, I hate reusable straws now as an adult because I have to clean them with a brush, but it's doable because they're wide enough. It's probably really annoying to get even a tiny brush through the windy, thin diameter straws. My parents probably ran hot water through it and called it a day.

Your parents cleaned yours??

Hey now. Those stern letters don't write themselves (although it now occurs to me that Chuck Schumer could be replaced in an instant by an LLM and no one would ever be the wiser).

Any information on what about the traffic stop was illegal (besides it being by masked, armed, unidentified paramilitary goons)?

And good for that woman. When we, the people, stand together, we are stronger than them.

But you also had unlimited access to the most coveted of all employee benefits: pizza party!

So far Fox News has been the second-best endorsement of Mr. Mamdani, besides himself.

One of my first jobs, I wanted to take off for my birthday (I was young and cared about birthdays then). I did it well in advance and followed proper procedure, but my manager told me last minute that I couldn't have it off because he was going on vacation. I told him that I wasn't coming in and he said that if I didn't that I would be out of a job. So I didn't go in, and guess who ended up having to cover for my shift anyway? 🙃

The district manager called me personally the next week to hire me back because my numbers were quite good, and they put me in a different location.

This is good to know - thanks for sharing. I dread that old.reddit.com's days are numbered...

I'll be honest: I probably have less respect for people who use Alexa than for Alexa itself.

...people who weren't involved in all this?

I found these guys a few years ago and their album Destrier still blows me away.

My example: rinsing spicy sauces and peppers off in my sink so the spiciness aerosolizes and I realize when it makes me cough. Every. Damn. Time.

From the linked GameSpot article:

"8BitDo has revealed the successor to its popular Pro 2 Bluetooth Controller. Officially called the Pro 3 Bluetooth Gamepad, the upcoming controller retains the form factor of the Pro 2 while implementing some of the enhanced features found in the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth, such as TMR joysticks and trigger locks. It also has a few entirely new features not found on other 8BitDo controllers, including swappable magnetic face buttons and an extra pair of arcade-inspired ball-top stick caps.

The 8BitDo Pro 3 Bluetooth Gamepad is available to preorder now at Amazon for $70 ahead of its August 12 release. It comes in three retro-themed colors: G Classic, Gray, and a shade of purple that pays homage to the Nintendo GameCube. All three models come with matching charging docks and a set ball-top arcade stick toppers that can be swapped in for the traditional rubberized caps. Out of the box, the Pro 3 is compatible with Switch 2, Switch, PC, Android, Apple devices, and Steam Deck."
