Plot twist: the aliens' one weakness is lavender oil.

[-] joelfromaus@aussie.zone 14 points 10 months ago

The Signs school of Chekhov’s gun. Water. More water. Water everywhere! Oh no! Aliens! I wonder what their weakness is 😉

This made me chuckle

[-] XbSuper@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

Is that what it says? I couldn't read it and thought it said lemonade.

[-] TheGiantKorean@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago

Yep, says lavender oil.

[-] Godnroc@lemmy.world 35 points 10 months ago

The essential SUPPLIES not the essential oils!

"What's this? I said, take only what you need to survive."

"My industrial-strength hair dryer. And I can't live without it!!"

She looks so satisfied with herself.

In the event of an apocalypse and you do happen to pack a great bag of actual essentials .... someone bigger stronger and with a gun is going to murder you for it.

[-] trslim@pawb.social 19 points 10 months ago

That's why you also pack a gun? Size doesn't really matter if you have one.

[-] Katana314@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago

A gun would add some serious weight to your pack, which would often mean you don’t cover ground as easily.

It’d be fun to see an apocalypse where everyone packed a gun to steal from everyone else but no one packed any food.

I'm pretty sure this describes some areas in the US.

[-] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 4 points 10 months ago

So you eat the other people. Simple.

Also, bring a pistol. Those aren't very heavy.

[-] Katana314@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Are they? I’ll admit, my experience is limited but it’s seemed to me even pistols are a considerable weight, especially compared to other survival/camping supplies.

[-] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago

Depends what you consider considerable. For example Glock G19 is 855 g (30.16 oz) with a full magazine, to me that doesn't seem much. Especially if you consider how valuable of a tool it could be. Hopefully you'd have at least twice that weight in water alone.

[-] Churbleyimyam@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

Yeah, if you've ever done some serious hiking you know you wouldn't want to haul around a gun. Also, imagine being in a shootout while wearing a massive backpack.

[-] qarbone@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

1.5 lbs, loaded, on average. Even I overestimated by quite a lot but it still wouldn't have made a major difference.

How the hell heavy did you think guns were? Were you adding on the mental weight of being able to easily take a life? Because that traditionally does convert to mass very readily.

[-] pastermil@sh.itjust.works 4 points 10 months ago

That's why you trade them out for some big guns.

[-] otter@lemmy.ca 13 points 10 months ago

Well, there aren't any working toilets anymore

Maybe this will help with the smell

[-] Ghost33313@kbin.social 10 points 10 months ago

Should have grabbed the olive oil.

[-] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

but olive oil isn't prized for its essence

[-] jaybone@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Essence of garlic bread.
