I am a really big fan of base building in RTS games, which is why I never liked Starcraft. Bases in Starcraft feel like they have such little rhyme or reason. They are messy and ugly. I always build a ton of bases in games like Tiberian Sun, that, while gameplay wise, are a waste of time and money, feel fun to build and fun to defend and destroy. I think a really cool strategy game idea would be a logistics themed game. One where building more realistic bases all over a map is a strategy so that they can supply and support each other. Maybe you start out with a FOB and you need to expand into guerilla held territory, but you need to build COPs and Logistics centers to keep your troops supplied and protected.

I always hated in Starcraft how clicks per second is a means to measure how effective some one is at the game. I really want to see a game where tactics and unit composition matter, where a platoon of mechanized infantry face off against like a BTR platoon and, using strategy, you pull through. Have each squad with a realistic composition of like a Squad leader, 2 team leaders, a radio man, 2 squad weapons, a crew served weapon, 2 anti tank units, a combat life saver, and 2 rifle men. I think something with that depth, but with a more coherant interface than like Shockforce, and with pausable real time combat would be awesome. Like Arma but an RTS.

What games would you want to see?

I always think its funny how bullets never seem to penetrate anything in movies. Like, guy hiding behind a barrel? Nope, cant penetrate, even with a rifle. The newest Batman movie had me shaking my head as he shrugged off multiple rifle rounds to his armor.

Bullets are insanely dangerous and powerful. A .223 round can penetrate a solid brick wall pretty easily, and can destroy a cinderblock wall with some effort. Even if it doesnt penetrate, the amount of force applied is incredible. Plates designed to stop bullets have to be made in specific ways to make sure a bullet doesn't penetrate, but even with that plate, the sheer force of an impact can break bones.

As much as I hate to see nuclear proliferation, Russia hasnt really given Ukraine much choice in the matter, seeing that Russia is willing to invade any non-nuclear states around it.

Title says it all. I've used the most up to date GE for it, and it kind of works, but I get some odd visual bugs. Additionally, any other Proton release ive used disables audio in cutscenes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im using Kubuntu, which is Ubuntu but with KDE desktop environment.

Hello! I'm a small time vtuber who moved to MX Linux a while back. I use a 3d model, and while I was able to get my model working, with the help of my husband (even better than windows actually,) we cannot get my hand tracking to work.

I've used the ultra leap on Windows with no issues. On the same PC, I tried to get it working on Linux. I use MX Linux (xfce), and the system is up to date. I know that the "Gemini" software only officially supports Ubuntu 22.04, but Ubuntu is Debian based and so is MX. So, I gave it a try. The program installed fine, and it seems to work normally. The device seems to be connected, and I can view its output through the web cam viewer.

However, the ultra leap Gemini program can't find the device. I'm far from a Linux expert, but I tried all the program's terminal commands that I could. I think what I need is to point the program to the device ID or something, maybe. Does anybody have any experience with something like this?

We also tried the older version of the program and that didn't work either. But I remember less about that. It was all terminal based I think.

I use OpenSeeFace and VSeeFace as my tracking software.

Any tips or trick I could try? If all else fails, I could migrate to Ubuntu, but I really enjoy my MX setup.

P.S. If this isnt the place to ask these sorts of questions, could someone direct me to where I might be able to get help?

I wanna thank everyone who helped and offered advice! My husband came up with a solution to use Xubuntu, as its very similar visually to my current OS, and most, if not all console commands I use will work properly. We attempted getting it to work in MX Linux, using the rather limited documentation available, but in the end, I am no Linux expert and changing to a new OS is not a big deal. Anyway, again, thank you everyone.

I can get a full, wellmade calzone and drink for 8.15 at a nearby pizza place. I got two small cheeseburges and a small fry for 10.00 at McDonald's. Ridiculous

Hi, i am having a problem with my internet speeds. I should be getting 100mbps, but am only getting 50ish. I have a dual boot machine, Windows 10 on my ssd and MX Linux on my m.2

In Windows 10, my internet speed is a lot faster, but going to Linux, it just drops off. I use the same device, TP-Link Archer T3U Plus. Can anyone help me?

The sites of grace are humanities from Dark Souls 1. Pretty sure its just a smart reuse of assets, but its fun to theorize. I like thinking that Grace and Humanity are similar, if not the same. Losing both leads to similar outcomes.

My husband recently upgraded to an AM4 platform. His issue is that there is no display. The gpu fans look like they are trying to start, but cannot. Additionally, there is no POST sound and the power button, while able to turn on the pc, will not turn it off. The lights on the motherboard work, as do the cpu fans and case fans.

I told him i think its a short, but he says the case has preinstalled standoffs. My other suspicion is a bad PCI-E port. It is a used motherboard.

Specs: Processor: Ryzen 1700 Motherboard: B350M Gaming Pro MSI RAM: DDR4 XPG Adata GPU: GTX 1060 6gb Also tried: Radeon R7 250

Thanks in advanced!

Edit: Oh wow so many posts! I'll try various solutions and keep you all updated on what work.

Gen Z here. I have a house, (its small, i wouldn't want a bigger one, because there is no need for it,) a decent car, am married, dont have any debt other than a mortgage, and i can comfortably pay everything i need to now and save a bit for the future. Why would I want to work harder for a better car? I don't have a desire to show off or anything. Instead of working hard for someone else, I want to create things. Stories, games, art, I want to be creative, i dont want to work my ass of for someone else, doing menial labor.

Simcity 2000 feels. (pawb.social)
submitted 8 months ago by trslim@pawb.social to c/gaming@beehaw.org

I have been playing a lot of the DOS version of Simcity 2000 recently. I grew up with it on my windows 98 pc, so revisiting it was nice. There were a few thing I picked up on that I never realized when I was young.

1: The game, especially the soundtrack, reminds me of Blade Runner. It has the synthy jazz instrumentals that are melancholic, but also has that classic simcity cheer.

2: The game kind of has a dystopian feel to it, at least visually. The ground is brown, with only sparse trees filling the world, buildings are fairly realistic, with not many colors, outside of the luxury homes and the Arcos are very intimidating structures, like something out of Judge Dredd or, again, Blade Runner.

3: Omg, water sucks in this game xD.

Why does this game feel so moody, at least to me? It's also intensly funny, and I will never not laugh when 1700 llamas die in a plane crash.

I have like 6 pages of stats for space ships, stations, weapons, factions and races for a game I play in my head while at work. It's like X4 but with Elite Dangerous' scale and ship customization.

I have another 15 pages of lore information for a world inhabited by furries that goes into the cultures of each race, (Melkin, Avastin, Scala, Exiranni and Drai,) how they interact with one another, interracial tensions, a timeline of major events, the story of one of my main characters during the Electromedeival period and the otherworldly horrors that they face. It also has a more futuristic-modern era, with futuristic cyberware mixed with 2000s architecture, where a group of investigators part of the government organization Advanced Research and Investigation Agency (ARIA) search and dispose of anomolous entities and secure anomolous areas. I've been working on it for years tbh, and idk why lol.

Wages are such fucking bullshit. There is a dairy manager who I work with whose been here for 20+ years. And she makes the same as me whose been here for 3 years in january. Im about to quit as soon as I find a place to go.

And out poor cleaning lady has been here for 25 years and makes 9 fucking dollars an hour. This company should be sued.

I dont even mind ads when its like one minute for 20 minutes of footage. Pluto TV is free to use and has commercial breaks but they never really bother me because they aren't that annoying and i get a lot of MST3K before I watch them. Youtube ad are cancer in comparison.
