Retirees are protesting again in Buenos Aires, rejecting the use of pension funds for Israeli citizens who want to live in Argentina.

This is Peter Lamela, Donald Trump's ambassador to Argentina, who has been open about his interventionist plan and support for President Javier Milei, which did not go unnoticed at the recent retirees' march in Buenos Aires. However, in this context, Javier Milei's government has decided to provide benefits to Israeli citizens who wish to come and live in Argentina, obtaining the funds from the same ANSES fund.

In this way, Minister Patricia Bullrich's security protocol prevents the free movement and demonstration of Argentine retirees trying to reach Plaza de Mayo.

Argentina offering shelter to genocidal people, a classic.

Doesn't Argentina already have a history of actual antisemitism? Like straight pogroms and race riots against them?

How tf is this not going to rekindle that? Giving Jews preferential treatment over your own citizens is going to validate a textbook antisemitic trope.

Not really that exceptional. I dont think Argentina has a particular history. It was widely regared as a safe haven for jews during ww2. In some german ww2 movie period dramas (like hindenburg) for example, it was seen as a codeword to identify "hidden" jewishness.

This is like beyond stupid. Idk is this some sort of internalized antisemitism/racism? "Israelis are jews, and jews are rich, so we must pay jews to settle our inferior people."?

A lot of latin american countries suffer from heavy internalized racism, even whitepassing countries (i.e of spanish/italian/portugese heritage). So they are pro-immigration in hopes that "superior" people will "breed" those countries into "prosperity" - so north euros, japanese, jewish and americans are considered valuable immigrants, bascially the oppossite mindset of far-right europeans (well except maybe for ukrainians/russians/belarusians who also believe that they would be better off being colonized by the west).
