What, what if you already havea truck. You have to buy an extra car to go to the office now?

[-] photonic_sorcerer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 46 points 11 months ago

You don't need a truck. Get rid of it.

Unless you work as a handyman or farmer or something, you don't need a truck. You can ask a friend or rent a trailer for the once in a year occurrence you need to transport something huge.

[-] FunderPants@lemmy.ca 20 points 11 months ago

Even handymen can work without them. My plumber and electrician drove hatchbacks.

[-] Ilovethebomb@lemm.ee 6 points 11 months ago

Bullshit is a plumber or electrician working out of a hatchback. I've seen tradies working out of station wagons, and the poor thing is usually dragging it's ass on the ground like a dog with worms.

Neat, I'll let them know. But if you've any curiosity about it, the electrician is driving one of those seat delete Chevy Bolt EVs. I don't know if he bought it directly or converted his own, but the back seats are removed, and a flat bed is installed.

They look like this.

I worked as a handyman out of a camry. It is possible, but not pleasant.

It's like telling an office worker that they need to work at a coffee table.

[-] FunderPants@lemmy.ca 5 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Yes, fair, and to be clear I'm not suggesting that tradespeople turn in their work truck for a hatchback. Moreso saying that if tradespeople can make it work without a truck, certainly the rest of us can figure out a way to commute without a truck.

[-] Ilovethebomb@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

What does the friend drive?

[-] JohnDClay@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 months ago

In my case, an f350 to pull giant trailers for an auction business he runs.

[-] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 4 points 11 months ago

it really is one of those "if you have to ask" problems

If you already have a truck, you gotta learn from your past mistake and sell that thing for a smaller vehicle

[-] CeruleanRuin 6 points 11 months ago

But what if I need to buy lumber or haul a mattress to the dump?

[-] rhandyrhoads@lemmy.world 19 points 11 months ago

Unless you're doing that sort of stuff super frequently you could rent one or borrow a friend with one. Should work out cheaper with the gas savings. That or get a station wagon.

[-] insomniac@sh.itjust.works 4 points 11 months ago

But then someone else who presumably doesn’t need a truck will be driving a truck

[-] wander1236@sh.itjust.works 9 points 11 months ago
[-] grue@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

No, you ride your bike to the office.

[-] riwo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 11 months ago

this is unrealistic because ron is the exact kind of person who would do this.. is this an actual line from the show?

[-] Bigtiddygothgrany@lemmy.world 27 points 11 months ago

No I believe it's "I have an uncle who does yoga"

[-] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 11 months ago

Which is silly IMO

Doing yoga is damn good for you. It increases strength and flexibility so that you're way less likely to get injured doing physical activity.

[-] Default_Defect@midwest.social 11 points 11 months ago
[-] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 11 months ago

I'd say it could be taken multiple ways, either mocking the person doing yoga or laughing at Ron for his silly take

I know a few people who took it as "mocking the yoga doer"

[-] Default_Defect@midwest.social 8 points 11 months ago

They wrongly believe Ron is right, when hes usually being a manly man stereotype. A kind of extreme example, but people thinking Homelander is a good guy in The Boys is a similar deal, they're also wrong.

[-] BingoBangoBongo@midwest.social 20 points 11 months ago

Disagree. Ron is pragmatic to a fault. Hauling air isn't pragmatic, nor does it do anything to hinder the function of government so I don't think he would.

[-] ichmagrum@feddit.de 13 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

TBF, he does live out in the woods and does a lot of woodworking and stuff like that. He probably has more use for a truck than most.

[-] vinceman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 11 months ago

He also drives about the most reasonable vehicle on earth, a mid to late 90s Park Ave with a 3.8. Genuinely one of my favourite cars, absolute highway monsters bigger than some trucks and drive better than they have any right to.

[-] zaph@sh.itjust.works 6 points 11 months ago

Ron dives a car but no the line is about the uncle doing yoga

[-] cupcakezealot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 11 months ago
