Explanation: In Biblical mythology, the Tower of Babel was a construction made with the intention of reaching the heavens - which so angered the Jewish God YHWH that he cursed mankind with different languages, so no one could understand each other and construction could not efficiently continue.

YHWH seems to run into that problem often. Make a creation, give it a conscious, give it free choice, give it absolutely no instructions, directions or guidance (other than a few vague appearances) ..... then blame his creation for all their bad choices and burn them all to hell for an eternity for a few decades of bad behavior.

Bad design on his part, really.

[–] Hubi@feddit.org 5 points 5 days ago

These guys were purposefully trying to get out of bounds. I think it's understandable.

Maybe it was by design .... after all, what do you do with eternity? after a billion years of day in day out just existing? Maybe we're the millionth iteration of his creations and after making a dozen 'perfect' worlds, it got boring so they decided to mix things up by creating this messed up reality for shits and giggles.

I've actually considered that exact scenario. In which case the Christian interpretation is dickish, but I get a deist interpretation without the addition of hell. How many fascinating stories do we create as YHWH's little ant farm? In which case I understand it, but it's also definitely not an omnibenevolent thing to do lmao

I like playing Minecraft to just relax once in a while ... create a random world, start from scratch and build it up until you got nothing left to do. Hit save, forget about it and start again. I've got dozens of saved worlds now.

Maybe this reality is just another game save that this teenaged eternal being created and forgot about.

Don't forget omniscience. God knew that shit was gonna happen and still did that shit.

I mean, he's directly responsible for all genocide, hunger, disease, and human suffering. Fucking dick ass.

[–] OrganicMustard@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It's a very human like behavior, like drowning your Sims in a pool to entertain yourself

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 days ago

Or childlike behavior .... a being that created something not knowing their own power and not understanding what they did so they decide to abandon it all when it's no longer fun to play with

Teach a man to build and he’ll ask how high he can go.

Rude move by God on this one.

Christians, and I guess Muslims too, believe in the same myth of the Babel Tower.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Muslims don't. Or, well, more accurately as with everything else in the Bible it's a neither confirm nor deny position, but Islam has absolutely nothing to say about Babylon.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago

Christians: "What do you think about our holy text?"

Muslims: "No comment."

Being omniscient and familiar with astrophysics (dude did whip up an entire planet and ecosystem in under a week), Y-man knew they were never going to make it past 40k feet let alone the fucking Kármán line, but dude still had a shitfit and crashed out, ostensibly creating (at least the genesis of) the earth’s languages, but more pointedly tried to stop the people from doing what he already knew they’d never be able to accomplish.

Got it.

But I must say, he steams a good ham

Religions offer a remarkable insight into the people that created them.

Mr. President, a second god has hit the second tower.

Why are all 3 comments in different languages? lol

[–] LostMonkey@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Biblical myth about the tower of babel. They tried to build to the heavens and god struck it down then everyone started speaking different languages. I haven't thought about that one in a long time and it's so funny to think that's actually in the Bible.

Edit:Before building the tower everyone spoke the same language

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

Hah! Didn't catch that. Cherry on top!

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

If you would've let them cook, it wouldn't matter!!!

[–] thatradomguy@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

We're cooked
