Hello all,

I purchased a AP9631 on eBay and installed it in my SMT2200RM2U. It lit up, it pulled an IP address...but I can't connect to it. I reset it and it reconnected but no change.

I can ping it and the device IP config tool finds it. But when I try to bring it up, it doesn't connect. I've tried http/https. I tried with IE on Windows10, no dice.

I Googled with Bing and have tried some of the utilities on the APC site with no luck. I didn't find much around connecting to it. Am I missing something?

You what now?!

Try to use the APC Firmware updater. Your firmware might be stuck and the way to go is to update the firmware. This might be a little hard to find, because APC recently did a dick-move and threw all their NMC firmware utilities behind a MASSIVE paywall. If you really can't find the tool, I can link you one. Send a DM if you're interesed. I think I have a tool for the AP/9630/AP9631, but I'll have to check to be sure.

Have you tried to ssh into it?

I didn’t but I bet that will work since I can ping it. I’ll try and see if I can see what’s going on. Now to find the available commands…

My recommendation would be to get a serial cable for the apc management card and login to it to do a factory reset procedure. At that point you can run through the whole provisioning process and confirm that it’s all set up correctly and working as expected. I’ve had to do this with several 9631 devices over the years on smt750s and it works great thereafter. Also keep in mind that that firmware on the 9631 is separate from the firmware on the ups itself. Both may need to be updated independently from each other and shutdown entirely to be performed. Best to do it on the bench before placing them into service.

I’ll look at that doing that today.
