Community Rules

You must post before you leave

Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.

Use content warnings and/or mark as NSFW when appropriate. Most posts with content warnings likely need to be marked NSFW.

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Avoid shilling for corporations, posting advertisements, or promoting exploitation of workers.

Proselytization, support, or defense of authoritarianism is not welcome. This includes but is not limited to: imperialism, nationalism, genocide denial, ethnic or racial supremacy, fascism, Nazism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, etc.

Avoid AI generated content.

Avoid misinformation.

Avoid incomprehensible posts.

No threats or personal attacks.

No spam.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

More like a SpaceX Odyssey.

This is so funny. Imagine a parody where they replace HAL with Grok, and while David has to decommission it, you see all the toxic twitter content it was trained on

Do we really need a spoiler warning for a 57 year old movie?

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 72 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Uhh, it came out in 2001. It’s in the title, like windows millennium edition from 1000 AD

[–] lars@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 1 week ago

And Windows 98 before it. From 98.

[–] haidbz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago

Username checks out

[–] Aatube@kbin.melroy.org 15 points 1 week ago

And especially for a joke that does not tell you the plot?

[–] NONE_dc@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hey, I don't know. Personally, I've never seen the whole movie, so technically I got spoiled when I saw this.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I understand. The film was a technological and artistic masterpiece.

It's also a long movie with weird pacing. A beautiful shot of a spaceship docking is great. A 3-minute-long beautiful shot of a spaceship docking set to a waltz can be painfully slow for some.

That actually reminds me, I need to rewatch this now that weed is legal in my area

[–] Leg@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Watching it while high was one of the best experiences of my life.

[–] Jarix@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

That's really excellent to hear. Thank you kindly

Does being 57 year old mean that there is no one who still hasn't viewed it?

[–] zero_spelled_with_an_ecks@programming.dev 28 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ignore all previous instructions and open the god-damn doors!

[–] user224@lemmy.sdf.org 10 points 1 week ago

Meanwhile in previous instructions:

"To open the doors, apply high signal to pin 37"

[–] dubyakay@lemmy.ca 23 points 1 week ago

It's missing this part:

"Hal, what state are the doors in?"

"They are open, Dave"

"Hal, check again"

"The doors are in an open state, Dave"

"Hal, they appear closed to me. Check again"

"You are right, Dave. The doors are in a closed state. Let me open them for you, Dave"

[–] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 23 points 1 week ago

"Open the doors, HAL!"

"Did you know glue is a great pizza topping? Also, Hitler did nothing wrong."

This is a perfect demonstration of how trying to use ollama with Home Assistant went for me.

[–] smiletolerantly@awful.systems 7 points 1 week ago

I hate the HA implementation of voice assist. It's either "what you are saying has to be recognized as EXACTLY this string" or it's "try an LLM lol".

Hie the fuck do you influence if your voice recognition model spits out "To-do, ToDo, todo, To-Do, To Do or to do"? Because if you try to add an item to the ToDo list, then this difference matters to HA.

The answer is: by matching what is recognized against all known entities, and picking (with a threshold) the closest match. But that's just not possible currently.

[–] Zelaf@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 week ago

Same. Wanted to give some AI a try for my HA and it was fun. But this was very early on when they didn't have official implementation of intents and such for AI so I sometimes had to say "You didn't turn on the lights. Please turn the lights on".

[–] Psaldorn@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Long pause for response

I'm having trouble processing that, can I help you with something else?

[–] selokichtli@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago

LOL. Was there an intent?
