It was Biden, wasn't it? No? Obama, then? No? Hillary? Bill? Pelosi? Who was it? Anti-Vaxxer?

Nah, didn't happen, fake news. If it happened, why isn't it on the news? I didn't see it on the news.

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

You are commenting on a news article about it.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 5 points 10 hours ago

I didn't see it. Doesn't exist. Fake news. LIBERAL!

[–] Richstmp@lemmy.zip 1 points 12 hours ago

All of you guys are covid vaxxed?

[–] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Amazing wanting to kill people for wanting people to not die of disease.

[–] BigBenis@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

No no, they're saving lives by killing the scary scientists that are secretly injecting nanobots into our children that brainwash them into being woke!

When will Democrats tone down the rhetoric? /s

[–] Zink@programming.dev 68 points 1 day ago

Aren't the anti-vaxxers in charge?

Y'all I think these anti-science terrorists might not be as smart as they look. And that's saying something.

"The Lunatic Left strikes again!"

I can't believe the amount of propaganda that floods USA society. Right-wingers genuinely don't believe their side is violent and dangerous because of shitbags like Trump and Musk.

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 54 points 1 day ago (3 children)

It's not that they don't believe their side is violent.

They believe their violence is justified. It's everyone else that is wrong.

It's a subtle but important distinction because they will gladly accept violence for their ends. They already have during January 6th.

[–] Azal@pawb.social 8 points 1 day ago

To a fascist, hypocrisy is a virtue.

My trump supporting father says that any violence committed on Jan 6 was secretly conducted by ANTIFA or the feds to make trump look bad.

That said though they do like violence from their side just look at how they react to protestors being run over but that's OK because they were committing the horrific crime of blocking the road

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 1 day ago

You're right. I should revise my statement to say that they don't consider themselves violent compared to "the Left" (by which they mean libs, who they think are socialist communists because they're completely brainwashed). They don't have a coherent understanding of modern politics beyond picking a side and shouting loudest.

Citizens United spelled the final nail in the coffin.

It should come as no surprise that with the

  • Decentralization of media,
  • The massive rise in wealth inequality and number of billionaires,
  • Deregulation of money as speech,
  • And foreign interference from Russia, Israel, China, etc. muddying the waters...

... And finally, combined with

  • Eroding education standards
  • Distancing of parents from their children
  • Widespread mental disorders and substance addiction and sometimes literal brain damage (lead poisoning, head trauma from football, etc.)

... That intellectualism is losing the race. These people live in completely alternate realities. Principals of religious faith have now fully been incorporated into political ideology. Once untethered from reason, it's all about what you want to believe.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 12 hours ago

Nah, Alito wrote that there is no evidence that large cash campaign donations leads to corruption.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 52 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

As soon as I saw "CDC" in the first headline I saw, I knew what kind of person did this, and what their political ideology was.

So fucking predictable.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 37 points 1 day ago

Stochastic terrorism is a form of political violence instigated by hostile public rhetoric directed at a group or an individual. Unlike incitement to terrorism, stochastic terrorism is accomplished with indirect, vague or coded language, which grants the instigator plausible deniability for any associated violence.

A key element of stochastic terrorism is the use of media for propagation, where the person carrying out the violence may not have direct connection to any other users of violent rhetoric.

That's why I don't talk to antovaxxers. They are crazy

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 5 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I have an antivax coworker who is also virulently anti-immigrant. Her main reason for being anti-immigrant is that she thinks immigrants are unvaccinated and bring diseases into this country. When she told me this I was too busy looking for my jaw on the ground to try and argue with her. She is exactly as unpleasant and ugly as you would imagine.

[–] CatDogL0ver@lemmy.world 4 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I used to work with an sntivaxxer nurse. She uses "religion exempt" to exempt all she and her kids from vaccines and she is a nurse!

[–] Jumpingspiderman@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

Gee, they might die from a preventable disease. Sad for the kids who have no choice.

[–] SoleInvictus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

That's smart. The probability any given antivaxxer might end up shooting you is still low, but I'd wager it's several orders of magnitude higher than if you disagreed with any other type of person on a similar subject.

I try to get in real good with the antivaxxers in my life, just in case. Like the people who thank AI.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

it’s much less lower than the odds of getting murdered by a cop because you spoke to them.

[–] CatDogL0ver@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

How do you know? You never been to Texas and Florida where many antovaxxers also carry guns? They are short fused and they hate to be corrected.

When you see a crazy person walking down the street, you just want to stay away from them

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

odds are formed after knowledge is had - tell me the last time you saw news of an antivax murder spree? Compare that to how often we hear of cops murdering during “no knock” raids. or traffic stops. or protests. or because they confused pistol and taser… etc.

[–] eddanja@lemmy.world 56 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Was the shooter white or other? I just want to know how much effort will put into the consequences.

[–] Stovetop@lemmy.world 66 points 1 day ago (1 children)

According to a local news station in Atlanta, they identified the shooter as a white male.

So, minimal effort. There will be some mild condemnation from local officials because he killed a cop (a black cop, though), but I'm sure he'll be remembered as an honorable but misguided patriot, particularly now that he's dead. This will also probably be used as a way to start cutting back at the CDC even more, as it has now become a topic of greater public concern.

[–] nocturne@slrpnk.net 56 points 1 day ago

they identified the shooter as a white male.

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 2 points 1 day ago

Is the shooter still alive? Then definately white.

[–] Jackusflackus@lemmy.world 30 points 1 day ago

Trump still alive? Ah nuts

[–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz 18 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Shit! They are shooting their own now?

[–] derpgon@programming.dev 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Cop was black, married father of two with another on the way and had been on the force less than a year.

Imma ask the ACAB gods for a qualified exemption in this case. That’s tragic.

[–] lennybird@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

Splitter! Come back to ACAPB.

[–] zarniwoop@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago

Exemption denied.
