Says the country that violates human rights left, right and center.

Ad hominem is ad hominem even regarding countries. Yes, the US is shit. Always has been, actually. But the current situation in the UK is shitty too.

...except the title literally includes Trump's name. Trump, the guy whose the elimination of USAID has literally.... literally....killed over 50,000 people due to removing food, medicine, and support for people around the world.

Trump is accusing others of failing to uphold human rights. Peak irony.

How is that an ad hominem?

Just pointing out the hypocrisy isn't an ad hominem.

[–] Lembot_0004@discuss.online 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It is. Actually "pointing out the hypocrisy" is almost always "ad hominem" because you are shifting attention from what is said to who said that :)

The reason to point out hypocrisy in politics is to get down to what the person really wants. For example, the pastor who preached against The Gays, and then ends up being convicted of grooming children. He obviously wasn't going after LGBTQ+ people out of some moral stance, so we look for other explanations. Gaining political power is one possibility.

In general, logical fallacies should be used to pick apart your own argument, not throwing it in other people's faces.

Nazi rights are not human rights. The US will never understand.

The UK is also encroaching on human rights, looking at the mass arrests that happened at the PA protest the other day, the online safety act, and the increased use of facial recognition tech in policing.

Although they probably aren't what Trump is on about

That's funny because personally, I'd accuse the Trump administration of protecting an orange fuckwit paedo nonce by not releasing the Epstein files.
