The only way JD belongs in a pub, is if his head is mounted on a wall as a conversation piece. "...so we rounded up the bastards, and introduced them to French cutlery..."

And the American Secret Service knocking on people’s doors and asking about their Facebook profiles

Fuck that entirely

[–] kcuf2@lemmynsfw.com 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

An appropriate acronym: American Secret Service = ass

Ya that one has been known for a while

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 5 points 1 day ago

Residents in Charlbury and the tiny hamlet of Dean, where the manor house is situated, quickly grew weary of Vance and his entourage of vehicles and Secret Service agents.

Wow, overzealous much? No one wants to kill Vance, what's the point!? 😂 He's like wasps or mosquitoes, people just want him to go away...

oh yeah, if some other country's secret service knocked on my door asking questions, i'd ask them to sit down (outside), serve them drinks, be polite, and laugh in their faces.

Oh man, it gets even better! From the article:

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 45 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What are they talking about that's just what he looks like

[–] lividweasel@lemmy.world 40 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Geez, have some compassion for the guy. He’s nowhere near that thin.

James Donald Bowman is the epitome of a bellend and an insult to humanity.

And I will deadname him in every thread till the day he dies.

Talk about direct action and solidarity.

That's how these regime whores should be treated every where.

They expect take nasty shit on plebs faces and then expect you smile as you serve them.

Is this what having a strong social safety net looks like where you don't risk losing your job and being homeless and destitute for taking a moral stand?

[–] cynar@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

It's likely more down to social cohesion. Smaller villages all know each other (or at least passingly aware). They also don't have a huge pool of workers to draw upon.

If all your staff agree it's an issue, then finding replacement staff won't be trivial. Also, a large chunk of your customer base likely agrees. Finally, a small pub is unlikely to be run by a big shot CEO. They will have a lot more empathy than the average middle manager.

You don't risk losing your job because your boss isn't an immoral shill for some capitalist corporation, so he's actually in on the protest and thus won't fire you.

Solidarity (and also labour laws Europe has less fire at will policies)

[–] PhobosAnomaly@feddit.uk 20 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

No. The "benefits system" or "safety net" or whatever is really quite basic and not fit for supporting a modern family, contrary to what the Daily Fail would have people believe. Losing a job is devastating financially and emotionally, as it would be elsewhere. The main positive is healthcare is still free regardless of whether you're drawing a giro or £250k a year.

It still takes massive balls to stand together like that and fuck him off. Good effort.

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 12 points 2 days ago

I imagine any of these assholes can't eat out anywhere. It's probably why they eat so much fast food from drive throughs.

The vice president had reportedly attempted to dine at The Bull in Charlbury, Oxfordshire, an early 16th-century countryside pub with a Michelin Bib Gourmand, a prestigious award from the Michelin Guide that highlights restaurants offering excellent food at moderate prices.

“It’s been the talk of the village-it’s the most exciting thing that’s happened here for a very long time,” one local told British tabloid The Sun of Harris’s visit to the venue, where a steak will set diners back $98.

Uh...

[–] modus@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If you look at the image of the menu in the article, most of the stuff costs far less than that. It's a bit deceptive to mention it the way they did.

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I mean... it's sirloin. Not Wagyu premium beef from the royal herd, adorned with gold leaf and truffle butter... It's just cow.

[–] pupbiru@aussie.zone 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

and some steak costs $300… what’s your point? £98 for a steak isn’t ridiculous… there’s a £26 pie there too and all their other prices are reasonable: i assume it’s just a really good cut

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 4 points 1 day ago

Of sirlion?!

Does it give a hand job?!

Anyway, good ol' regime whore was served tho 🐸

Charlbury couches can breathe a sigh of relief

Good, the polished turd needs to know that it stinks. It isn't fit for good company, nor is it qualified to be Vice President.

[–] choking_the_dolphin@lemmynsfw.com 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I wonder how often his food gets the same treatment as a that scene in "Waiting"
