It's hard for me to believe how quickly we're losing progress, all around the world.

An outdoor screening of Greta Gerwig’s hit movie Barbie has been cancelled in a Paris suburb over threats from opponents who believe the blockbuster “advocates homosexuality”.

Fellas, is it gay to watch a movie?

A movie with Margot Robbie as the lead, no less. I guess women aren't sexy when they ask for respect and point out systemic issues.

What's the point of having women in a movie if I can't goon?

[–] Malgas@beehaw.org 2 points 1 day ago

Skill issue.

Liking women and watching media made with them in mind is hella gay. The only straight media is gay porn.

The only manly love is man love. This is the way.

What the fuck part advocates homosexuality?? Qualifier that I haven't seen the movie since it came out, but as I recall....

The entire B-plot is about Ken being absolutely obsessed with Barbie. At no point does Ken consider whether he's actually into another Ken. And Barbie doesn't give a shit about Ken not because she's gay, but because He's Just Ken. That's the fucking joke. I swear none of these idiots have sisters or daughters and have never seen them Play Barbies.

It's a grown woman filmmaker finding the funny in applying adult themes of anxiety and existential crisis upon Stereotypical Barbie and Stereotypical Ken, while all the other Barbies and Kens still live within the rules of Playing Barbies from her youth.

Is it all the pink? The beach bod dudes? Is that where they're finding The Ghey? Perhaps that says more about them than the movie.

Bigots don't care. Empowered women under patriarchy? No way! A man doing something for a woman? No way!

What you need to underatand is, bigotry and hate are usually projections from the insufferable fucks who want to push the hate. It doesn't matter if trans people aren't literally ruining sports and breaking records. It's the idea that they're injecting unfairness to morons who think they're all-stars at sports.

All hateful bigots need to do to gain support is to convince other brainless insecure morons that "the other" is the source of their unhappyness and not their own constant failure to be as cool as they think they are.

And Barbie doesn’t give a shit about Ken not because she’s gay, but because He’s Just Ken.

Not really. She just doesn't like him. That's it. And "I'm Just Ken" is a song about being happy with yourself and not needing Barbie/someone else to do that.

Apparently, when you delete an entire comment thread, Piefed also deletes the explanation for why it's been deleted.

So here goes: a comment implied that all French people are gay. A few people took offense to that, felt that "gay" was being used as a slur. And I agree it can probably be interpreted that way, which violates rule #2.

Je suis terrified of ze gheys! Oh!

[–] FerretyFever0@fedia.io 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

And they call my dislike of the French "bigoted", and "unfair". Honestly, come on. (No, I don't actually hate most French people, but a couple of them are really trying to push me in that direction ngl)

Don’t forget that they’ve had a few more targeted mass killings over political things than most of their immediate neighbours, so it’s not surprising they’d be wary when receiving threats. Despite the dishonestly phrased headline, it hasn’t been cancelled, just rescheduled.

A few of the French I have met had more distaste for their fellow countrymen than I thought possible, but maybe it’s a culture thing since they do tend to rally and burn shit down (including on fire fire fighters) when it comes to protecting what they see a good for the people

They get a little... angry sometimes. Honestly, a lot of Americans hate other Americans as well. I feel like the US gets a disproportionately high amount of hate. Don't get me wrong, it deserves most of what it gets. But the UK and France seem to almost be getting let off for what they've done. They're both responsible for the creation of the US as well lol

We definitely do get a high amount of hate often being the loudest in the room adds to the attention as well haha (at least that’s what I’ve been told) I definitely agree with you on the hate distribution. Yeah I agree the UK and France both have gotten their hands dirty as well l, but like said earlier it is really harder to ignore the loudest in the room constantly and consistently, but on the other hand what do I know? Besides on how to burn a steak after a few to many beers (consistently haha)
