I wish everyone just used 24 hour format. Wtf is even this 12 hour crap. Why fuck up a system ?
It's because the 12-hour AM/PM time is older than people being comfortable with the concept of zero.
Same laziness that keeps America from switching to metric. Learning something new is so scary. I had to recently learn to use an ergonomic keyboard because my aging ass is getting carpel tunnel and it took a mere 3 days to learn. That's it. Now my quality of life will increase and I'm feeling better. People are afraid to work at something new. It's human nature but we are smart enough to realize that and make changes. But lazy. So no.
Nah, we should count up the hours since January 1, 1970 at midnight. What is this 24-hour crap??

May I promote my clock with 6 hour format? It reduces the need of one digit compared to 12hr clocks. It's great.

The months themselves were fine until some emperor toddled along and fucked with them. Now Tenmonth is the 12th month. Ugh!
Funny enough, that's actually not true. July and August were originally named Quintilis and Sextilis (5th month and 6th month respectively) and were both renamed by the Senate well after Julius and Augustus died to honor them.
January and February were (re-added) later by Pompilius to sync the Roman calendar with a lunar year (364 days).
Unless you meant Pompilius, but he added those months for totally legitimate reasons.
12 noon is mid day, so how can it be after itself?
Everything after 12:00:00.000000...0 is technically after noon. However, there were (are?) different convention on whether noon is am or pm.

how about ad meridies for midday...? and ad noctis for midnight I guess
12:15 in the afternoon is uncontroversially 12:15 PM. I don't think anyone could disagree with that. So are 12:10 PM, and 12:01 PM.
By extension, noon can only be 12PM, not AM, because the the moment we go from 11:59 to 12:00 is the very instant the afternoon starts.
(I use 24h clock myself but that's another argument)
technically there's no 12am or 12pm. it's just 12 noon and 12 midnight. but for some situations it's easier to have 2 labels than 4, especially when two of them are reserved to 1 min a day. so they just am and pm for convenience. so the logic you explain is used.
The english way of telling time is stupid. In german we numerate from 0 to 24 for the whole day. 0 and 24 both mean midnight, but other then that its always clear what time you mean. In practice you can still say 4 to 4pm and everybody will understand you. But if you dont have context or want to be clear what you mean the other system is way better.
We have that in England too.

This is why I will always maintain that 12 AM is noon, even if barely anyone agrees with me. It's not like this is a settled matter anyway.
The Canadian way is intriguing. They don't fuck around, no am no pm, they just call it noon or midnight.
That feels correct, doesn’t it? There are always going to be special cases in all our human systems. Why not treat them as such? It’s so much easier to say 12 noon and 12 midnight (or even skip the 12 if you wanna).

Yes, it is daft. After 11pm should be 12pm and then 1am.
"12 AM" and "12PM" is nonsense and should never be used. It's either midnight or noon.

I hate when someone says "quater past" or "half past" etc, just tell me the time!! I don't have the brain power for riddles.
You give me a great idea for more efficient communication of time. If pm is post meridiem, instead of half past noon, we could just say half pm!
