"Come here
Our civilization can no longer be saved by ourselves
I will help you conquer this world"

presses the button

(I really emphathize with Ye Wenjie btw)

The truth is out there.

It amazes me to no end that so many people have so little imagination of how much worse things could be for us.

[–] SkyeStarfall@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

No matter what, it's not going to get worse than dying. There is a floor to the suffering

Sure, they could in theory grab you and torture you, but just keep an easy out around and you'll be fine

You feel free to "out" yourself, I'm fighting the current assholes and if you bring in more then I'd have to fight them too so please don't.

That said, I do realize how ridiculous this hypothetical is to have in a discussion about UFOs.

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I think its not that "this can't get worse", but rather its like: "fuck this, lets just end the world"

It's like Ye Wenjie in The Three Body Problem.

Sometimes you just get fucked by governments so much, you just want to try something different.

We all have a little "Ye Wenjie" inside us.

I haven't seen the show, but I'll die fighting every ounce of this shittiness in this world, ya'll can just sign off alone.

every ounce of this shittiness in this world

Lmao, why you so mad lol. I didn't say I agree with their views, just explaining it.

It often seems like a lot of Americans who were always told their country is the best are waking up to the fact that it was mostly lies but still have that "USA best" thing buried down in their subconsciousness from all the propaganda so they start to think the exact opposite is true. That the USA is the best in being the worst, so to speak.

Also explains tankies. "We were told USSR were the bad guys, we were lied to, therefore USSR must have been a paradise."

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 2 points 16 hours ago

Also explain the converse, people living in self-proclaimed "communist" countries loving the USA because "communism" bad, therefore USA must be good. Like those Cuban-American voters supporting trump.

Campism is so dumb lmao

Americans who were always told their country is the best are waking up to the fact that it was mostly lies

How many of them do you think are waking up exactly?

[–] Klear@quokk.au 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

That's super hard to tell since I only ever interact with ones that either visit europe or post in echo-chambers like lemmy.

Probably fewer than it seems from the outside percentage-wise, though that's bound to still be quite a few people. The US is a huge country.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah. Probably not as many are suddenly “waking up” as you might think. I wish you were right though. But I’m just not seeing it.

[–] Klear@quokk.au 1 points 1 day ago

I can see now I didn't express myself too clearly. I didn't mean that "a lot of americans are waking up", but that of those (perhaps few) waking up, a lot those are still bearing the effects of propaganda.

DARE fucked up a generation's education

[–] Pickleideas@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

Hence why people vote the way they do

[–] damnedfurry@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Yeah, as I read this, my first thought was it being preceded with "never subjugated voice:", lol.

[–] nightwatch_admin@feddit.nl 1 points 1 day ago

Yes, but meme still funny

[–] chocrates@piefed.world 13 points 1 day ago

How bad is it, that a violent alien overlord might be better?

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Don’t blame me, I voted for kodos.

"Abortions for some. Miniature American flags for others!"
