I don't know enough women anatomy and I am too afraid to ask.

Anyone have an answer?

My ex enjoyed orgasms during periods, said it eased cramp pains.

Having a bloody face is hilarious if you both like horror porn.

Well personally, the period always crashed my libido. Most desire right before it, then boom, crash, just sleepy, hungry, or migraine when it started. So my answer would be "because I didn't want to".

Anatomically, the cervix is lowest during the menstruation, so you are more likely to bump it, but I am not sure how much of a difference that makes.

There is no safety reason not to have sex when you are on the period though - so if you both want to, go for it.

This thread needs more women.

Myths:

Women experience more pain from sex on their period.

Cramps are gonna happen regardless. The dopamine and endorphins released from sex can actually reduce the pain. But cervical trauma is probably going to feel way worse when your insides are already rebelling.

Women are more horny on their period.

There isn't any evidence to support this, though individual women may vary. If there was a horny time of the month, it would make more sense if that lined up with ovulation, when pregnancy is more likely to occur.

The vagina is bleeding!

The "blood" is actually the shed lining of the uterus, escaping by way of vagina.

Get yourself a set of big, red beach towels for some carefree period sex and leave enough time for clean up. You haven't lived until you've cave-painted the shower wall with your/your partner's insides.

Clearly this question hasn't been asked of a bunch of women, or the research hasn't been done.

Is it a given? An absolute? Probably not. But also look at other mammals.

[–] Ceedoestrees@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

It has been researched. Pubmed and Psychology Today alone have plenty of resources on arousal at different phases in the menstrual cycle.

If you look at other mammals, they're more likely to get freaky during ovulation, not during menstruation, if they do menstruate. Kinda like us.

This! ↑

The cervix actually shifts down a bit during the period, making it easier to hit. Some like it, some doesn't.

It's as you say, we do have an extra horny time of the month around ovulation, the week before ovulation. It's when our discharge has the consistency of raw egg white bc the sperms swims easier in it or something like that.

if I remember correctly.

[–] Ceedoestrees@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

And this! Yes, that's an important note. If you experience more pain during period sex, this could be the cause and can be mitigated with gentler intercourse.

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 28 points 22 hours ago

They totally can, it's up to them.

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 22 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I’ve done it many times. Makes little difference though it’s best done with lighter flow because it can get messy when heavy.

Now, whether a woman will want to have sex during menstruation might vary because it often comes with unpleasant physical side effects that may damper your libido.

[–] funbreaker@piefed.social 5 points 15 hours ago

Yeah, OP's partner just straight up not being in the mood will be the bigger roadblock. Hard to be when you're in pain/stuck with diarrhea/upset at everything/fatigued/ hangry/any of the above.

[–] DoubleDongle@lemmy.world 6 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

It's fine. Some people think it's gross, but it's harmless. I swim the red sea regularly. The worst thing that has ever happened was that I looked like I killed someone with my dick, but I think it's funny

[–] tungsten5@lemmy.zip 1 points 18 hours ago

Same. Sometimes it looks nasty but it feels better imo🤷🏻‍♂️

[–] TheFunkyMonk@lemmy.world 7 points 21 hours ago

In my experience they’re more horny while on their period. Some of the most fun times I’ve had.

[–] funbreaker@piefed.social 9 points 22 hours ago

There's no inherent risks (besides STIs but that's a worry for sex in general), but she'll have to remove any tampon or menstrual cup she's using. https://www.healthline.com/health/womens-health/sex-during-periods You will also have to think about cleanup.

[–] SpicyTaint@lemmy.world 4 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

The strength of one's period can make it extremely messy. My ex and I did it before she realized it was about to start and the room was dimly lit. She noticed something was weird, stopped for a moment, and turned on the lights. Looked like a murder scene, lol.

[–] EponymousBosh@awful.systems 4 points 20 hours ago

It's considered taboo according to some religions, but there's not really any practical or medical reasons, other than the ones already mentioned.

[–] skrlet13@feddit.cl 2 points 19 hours ago

They can if they want. Many don't like to because blood is messy and hard to clean, and/or are in pain (uterus hurts for some), but having sex during their period is not harmful by itself.

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world -3 points 21 hours ago (4 children)

would you like to get fucked in an orifice that is currently bleeding?

[–] hoshikarakitaridia@lemmy.world 10 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Damn I didn't know you would bluntly ask me like that but I can send you my tinder profile if you're up for it

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago

o.o well, each to their own i guess. i used to have periods and if anyone as much as thought of touching me i'd recoil in disgust (the feeling was probably made worse by intense dysphoria tho)

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 6 points 21 hours ago

I'm listening....

[–] Ceedoestrees@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

The vagina doesn't bleed, it's the exit shoot for the shed uterine lining. More like the water slide than the pump.

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

i am aware, i used to have those. the technicality of what's actually happening doesn't change the discomfort of feeling and looking like an orifice of yours is bleeding

[–] Ceedoestrees@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I also used to/rarely have those. But bleeding implies pain and an open wound, and the Vagina is not doing that. There's way too much misinformation on reproduction as it is.

That said, your comfort and mental states around menstruation are reasonable concerns.

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

well, there was pain, but i get your point
