That's fucking kidnapping.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 56 points 1 month ago (3 children)

faschy bastards are going to do faschy bastard things.

We're running out of time. Soon violence will be inevitable.

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 17 points 1 month ago

It's really more a question of when than if at this point.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 month ago

Violence is not only inevitable, it has already started. Hopefully the defense starts soon

Yeah it is coming. I am buying MREs and bullets. Fuck man. I just wanted to retire in peace.

[–] SoleInvictus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 month ago

I just wanted to retire. I put 50/50 odds at subsistence farming and/or resisting being coopted by the local warlord in my sixties.

It is telling that, apparently, state Rep. Nicole Collier is the only Democrat who refused to sign "a permission slip to be under escort by the Texas Department of Public Safety." So, count 'em, one Democrat had the courage to say no.

I find it more likely they drew straws. You only need one to do this to prove the point.

[–] Manifish_Destiny@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

So only one person has to have integrity? Fuck that.

[–] Juice@midwest.social 3 points 1 month ago

Yes but many is required to put up a fight. Illustrative of the failed dem strategy that rhetorically expedient is practically ineffective, and ultimately cedes power to the fascist right.

In other words, "I'm not owned! I'm not owned!" I continually insist as I cash in political points for fundraising emails and my constituency is quickly loaded onto busses bound for concentration camps

"I'm going home now."

"Not without this police escort you're not."

[–] AlexLost@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Hey, can't vote on anything if you're dead?!

[–] apftwb@lemmy.world 30 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

The article does not mention what entity or law is compelling them to stay? Are we really at "might makes right" in the Texas Senate?

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

The Department of Public Safety, according to the article, at the behest of the Republicans

[–] apftwb@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

That doesn't really paint a clear picture. Department of Public Safety is doing the detaining and "Republicans" is fairly nebulous. What law gives the Department of Public Safety the right to force Texas state representatives to accept a police escort? What about detaining them in the congressional building? Who said she could sleep in her office? On who's authority?

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

It's Texas. Why aren't those lawmakers shooting already?

[–] etchinghillside@reddthat.com 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Haven’t been paying attention – did the rezoning get blocked or not?

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 30 points 1 month ago

They ran the clock out successfully for the legislative session, but another session starts tomorrow and that will start the attempt to pass it over again.

[–] Gowron_Howard@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

She’s safer in there than with the fucking cops.
