"Tankie" is just a pejorative for communist, same as "commie," "pinko," and "red." I don't really wear any of them with "pride," I just don't really take it seriously just like I wouldn't take a Trump supporter calling me a liberal seriously.

No, it's a pejorative for a certain type of communist. One who lost touch with reality.

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

No, it's a pejorative used against the exact same people "commie," "pinko," and "red" have been used against. It's just a pejorative for communists in usage.

No. Not all communists are authoritarian communists. We don't all need some Führerkult.

Again, "tankie" is used against the exact same people "commie," "pinko," and "red" are, against communists. If your point is that some people wish to think of themselves as communists while disapproving of every existing socialist project in the real world, then I would say that those fringe few "left" anticommunists aren't the ones referred to as "commie," "pinko," or "red" either.

You dropped this

Couldn't be more cringe if you tried.

I think you need to look at this as an immersive romcom and then it becomes funny. Considering he believes it, this is such good writing.

The Death of Stalin.

I've heard it's quite good, haven't gotten around to watching it myself yet.

I recommend the movie; it's essentially a loosely historical commentary on the political situation in the Soviet Union, at the time of Stalin's death.

It's fairly comedic and definitely worth watching.

It, unlike this post, is very good. It’s by the guy who made Veep and it’s unbelievable yet disturbingly true to life.

Fun fact: they toned down the medals for this character because it seemed too absurd.

[–] nosuchanon@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Does he just take one off his chest when he gives medals to soldiers?

[–] EvilBit@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

No, he actually steals one from them and absorbs its power.
