Ah my nemesis has shown themself

Complete display of failure on the part of the KDE developers for not calling it "Klock" or something similar

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 50 points 6 days ago

Yeah those devs used to be Konquerors

KDE Plasma - The only OS UI where sorting apps alphabetically is pretty useless.

[–] Capricorn_Geriatric@lemmy.world 34 points 6 days ago

If you want systems utilities, no need to look at the entire app list or a special exception for the sort! Just go look into the K area instead. A few other apps may invade the space, but all your system apps are gonna be in one place!

I thought most DEs gave apps generic names on their .desktop these days? gedit -> text editor, file-roller -> archive manager, baobab -> disk usage analyzer, etc.

maybe just a Mint thing, I actually used to struggle to find the actual name of an app there

While I love the fun of having a pattern like that... It's actually kinda dumb (with all due respect) that KDE had a naming convention of starting every app with K, and at the same time, a standard app menu that lists applications alphabetically.

Which means if you install a standard, expected "clean" version of KDE Plasma and it's default apps, the alphabetical sorting is almost useless yet it's the primary UX element of the most important menu in the interface.

Still love KDE though.

Never thought of it like that. You're right.

[–] zeca@lemmy.ml 5 points 5 days ago

Besides, the search from klauncher should probably show kalendar if i type calendar, its a bit annoying to have to remember these alternative spellings

It's okay, GNOME picked up the slack with Galculator

I propose that we change it to Fitneßßtudio just to be safe.

[–] alezyn@feddit.org 5 points 6 days ago

Next thing you know they’ll do 10 minutes on the “Marschband” for warm up and then 3 sets of “Armheben”.

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

Three is okay, that’s just a snake.

[–] Zier@fedia.io 43 points 6 days ago

[–] aliser@lemmy.world 22 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I hate how some modern apps are just misspelled words.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 11 points 5 days ago (1 children)

LXQT version: Qlock

[–] Randelung@lemmy.world 15 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Kloq

Bonus: Qt WMs can call it Qlok.

[–] lobut@lemmy.ca 13 points 6 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I remember using KDE back in the day and that so many applications started with K that using the start menu to look for my application was jarring.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 9 points 5 days ago

I'm disappointed.

[–] normalexit@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago

Recently switched to kde, and I've been enjoying it. The hardest part is the app names.

[–] SpiceDealer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Unrelated but what fediverse social is this?

[–] Ludrol@szmer.info 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Screenshot was made in app.wafrn.net

[–] Dreaming_Novaling@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 days ago

God I hope wafrn takes off in a few years, I wanna leave Tumblr. Also got a silly email being shamed by the devs for not interacting much after my initial joining 😅
