What a stupid ruling. Trans people have the right to keep that private for safety reasons.

Not from their partners. By the time you get in a relationship, you should probably have already shared that.

But bring out of the sex offender list is fucking egregious. I don't think people have a right not to be surprised with a penis. That detail shouldn't count against her just as badly as if she surprised him with penetration. Just telling your partner shouldn't make you vulnerable to legal action at all. If she just stuck it in there with no warning, he would have a case.

But "oh no, the bros will never respect me again" does not count as being a victim.

By the time you get in a relationship,

By the time you get in a relationship, if you haven't detected that your partner is trans, that's a pretty good sign it doesn't matter that they are

Putting her on the sex offenders register and finding her guilty of sexual assault seems beyond extreme to me. I can't even imagine going to the fuckin' cops if I was dating someone and later found out they were trans. Insane overreaction from both the dude and the legal system.

I wonder if the dude felt he had to go to these lengths to prove to his peer group that he's not gay or something. I guess going to the cops is still better than what usually happens when someone is angry with a trans person...

Right? If you “don’t swing that way” tell them and leave it there.

Meanwhile, where I am, if someone knows they have an STI and has unprotected intercourse with me and I'm infected, no chargeable offense has occurred.

Informed consent, people. It's about informed consent. Not about outting trans folk. It's about ensuring everyone in the relationship is safe.

Right. And before they had sex, she informed him she was trans.

[–] chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And now she's being sued for it. Which seems like a vast overstep.

I agree, I may have misread your comment as suggesting she hadn’t disclosed.

The article is sparse at best. I'm not sure when the disclosure happened.
