Just watch me as I continue to never go to a cracker barrel ever in my life because of how fucking irrelevant they are. I don't even know where the nearest one to me would be.

[–] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 0 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Drive down a highway in any area with a decent population and it will be right off the interstate.

[–] kerrigan778@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

Lol not where I am, I just checked, it would be about a 6 hour drive into the next state. Definitely gonna rent me a car to go to the dewoked cracker barrel in fucking Idaho lol

[–] Deflated0ne@lemmy.world 158 points 2 days ago

Real hours.

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 126 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

I've always associated cracker barrel with "angry old white people who think black pepper is spicy" and their meaner variant, the post-church crowd. so... not particularly surprised?

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 54 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, I’m more surprised they had any sort of DEI language to begin with (of course it was clearly just pandering, so).

[–] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

All companies expressing any political meta is pandering.

Any adherence to a political meta isn't a testament of their values, it is a testament of their customers' values.

Companies want the money of their customers' and they will say or do anything they think will keep making them money.

If you think any company supports DEI or LGBTQ issues genuinely, I have a bridge to sell you.

[–] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

Lol, I went to some chain and got the chicken Alfredo, the guy warns me it's a bit spicy. I tell him no worries, bring it on. The thing has like 6 flakes of red pepper on it. I figured he had to warn me bc some Karen complained.

More like a place near highway exits where you can get sit down service. That is really what their market is.

This has to be on the top 10 dumbest moral panics in history

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 9 points 1 day ago

conservative panics to be exact. just like with the tan suit panic, the djon mustard one, gay and satanic panic, plus aids panic.

Not even close I will bet!

You can't have Cracker Barrel without crackers.

[–] SuiXi3D@fedia.io 27 points 1 day ago

Aaaaand there it is.

[–] Vanilla_PuddinFudge@infosec.pub 34 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I loathe Cracker Barrel.

Why? I'm a Southerner that knows Southern food, knows what a good, family resturant is, or in some town's cases, was, and I blame them for the systematic deletion of small family restaurants across the South.

Make the food good enough and intice people with fake antiques and candy and you too can run everyone out of business with tacky crap in place of anything anyone would consider soul.

Ugh, fuck them. So tacky, fake and greedy. I feel wrong being in one, like oil and water.

[–] bytesonbike@discuss.online 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I grew up in a city where anybody who is darker than a pencil avoided the hell out of Cracker Barrel. Not just because of the racist clientele, but also because the food sucked.

another collaborator for the Hague

[–] MisterOwl@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

Welp, not goin to cracker barrel ever again.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 35 points 1 day ago (1 children)

LOL, that corporate performative stuff never meant much as far as being "allies" to anyone.

No, but it sure is telling recinding those policies at this time.

[–] TheAlbatross@lemmy.blahaj.zone 43 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Dying restaurant flails wildly to try and recapture relevancy oozing away from it like blood from a stuck, bloated corpse.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, I don't really think they were doing very well even before the poutrage over the logo.

[–] Sludgehammer@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"Poutrage". Lol, I've gotta remember that one

[–] maccentric@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

I read it as poot-raj at first, thinking it was some borrowed French word I was unfamiliar with 😆

[–] LuxSpark@lemmy.cafe 38 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Will also quietly remove Cracker Barrel from my restaurant possibilities. Okay, maybe not so quietly.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Why was it there to begin with?

[–] LuxSpark@lemmy.cafe 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They have pretty good breakfast, but would only occasionally eat there.

They've got decent catfish, potatoes, biscuits with apple butter.

Haven't been in a couple years maybe, but it was good in a pinch & with a variety of food that you can get most people in a group to agree on.

I demand political purity from my breakfast place.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

They could simply have done nothing and no one would be asking them for anything, but now they decided to kneel to bigots.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

Their primary customer base is Republicans, your picketing means nothing.

[–] londos@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Someone tell Dolly.

[–] rayyy@piefed.social 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Look around a lot of businesses are grasping at straws. They are offering specials and discounts galore, unless it is beef, produce, electronics or foreign imports. The logo change was a cry of desperation. Unfortunately they will lose business no matter what now.

[–] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (3 children)

The logo change was just an innocuous act of corporate blandness to simplify it. Then people freaked out because somehow a guy leaning on a barrel deeply touched them.

[–] lazylion_ca@lemmynsfw.com 6 points 1 day ago

a guy leaning on a barrel deeply touched them.

Must have been their turn in the barrel.

[–] III@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He must be a Republican Senator with all that touching.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

He was touching a barrel, not a child.

...wait, maybe the barrel was very young and asking for it? Damn them young sexy curvy barrels!!

Hey guys, people didn't like the logo change. Maybe we try to get MAGA people in here?

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Pretty sure the MAGA crowd was always their biggest user base. This smells more like ‘maybe if we double down, they’ll forget about the logo and come in more’.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I still find it hilarious that people think the logo change was "woke".

What do words even mean any more?

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

In reality: woke = having social empathy.
In their world: woke = whatever I don’t like.

They're doing this JUST to raise attention and get media coverage, as a dying brand that nobody cared about.

There are no more social consequences in the US, as long as you're making someone angry, you're getting attention and thus winning. That's what all of this is, and why all of our political strategies have to change.

The biggest thing you can do to stop corporations from gutting out every last avenue of communication and political action is to simply stop spending money on them. Stop getting doordash and takeout, learn to make your own food. Stop getting coffee and spending money on excesses like games and movies.

Start hoarding the wealth away from the liches and monsters who look at literally everything you do as a money-making opportunity. Dry up the flow of blood and they will start to starve and this will force them to take actions, to kick out their employees in the government and restructure management in desperate attempts to keep line going up.

[–] skuzz@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

100% this. From the marketing move they were never going to do, to the reversal and shift in "values". They were just doing the New Coke gambit to drum up business.

Other things to do, stop paying for streaming services and check out books and DVDs from your local library. Cancel expensive cell plans (since they are, unfortunately partially needed today), and switch to the cheapest MVNO that works. Downgrade home Internet to the minimum tolerable. Don't upgrade phone, car, tablet, whatever as long as one can hold out. Cancel services like Amazon prime and impulse buy less.

Find local businesses to shop at rather than corporate chains (which can be difficult, so just a little at a time.)

Pay off debts, save, live free. Let the corpos wither.

Pay off debts, save, live free. Let the corpos wither.

Seriously, I am relieved every time I don't get pushback on this... and it's shocking just how much people hate this message, but we HAVE to start living within our means. We have to stop relying on debt and borrowing from tomorrow, it's why all of this is so very bad. We fell for the magic, we believed the hype and dazzle and wanted the shiny, good thing now and every time they dangle a new good thing, we want that instead.

Rise above instincts. Return to community, to sports and walking and libraries and hiking and not sharing ANY of it on goddamn social media! Your "unique, rustic lifestyle free from debt" should not be someone's advertising campaign!

[–] Ooops@feddit.org 8 points 1 day ago

Always appease the fascists and far-right nutjobs, then they will totally leave you alone once in power...

Oh, wait. They actually won't..

[–] porksnort@slrpnk.net 11 points 1 day ago

Anyone who has ever worked in a kitchen or as a server knows that they are wall-to-wall queer-friendly. If Cracker Barrel has trouble now keeping things staffed (they will), this is why.

Kitchen people are often woke af because they have had to be to survive.

[–] FilthyShrooms@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Very funny. Clearly the issue was "woke" and not terrible marketing decisions, and this will fix everything
