“We’ve stolen your files and uploaded them to OneDrive. No need to thank us. By the way, this isn’t free so start your subscription now or don’t access your files.”

Had to walk a friend through desyncing OneDrive and uninstalling it last night because word files weren't being saved locally. Shit is literally just malware.

[–] nickhammes@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

at least ransomware is upfront about its intentions?

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

My biggest pet peeve is it will randomly link to that and then start Auto-saving shit. You can start with regular saving and then you go and modify some document to use as a template and it saves over the original document itself. Infuriating.

And forget about ever updating your PC again because that shit will weasel it's way back into your system

Ive had no issues keeping one drive dead. The only thing I had any real issue with was phone link which despite being uninstalled and had no use, was consistently having 40+ processes.

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh, and you had too many files. You'll need a more expensive subscription to OneDrive if you don't want us to delete them.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

You have three terabyte of disk space? Don't care, pay up. P.S. fuck you, peon.

Oh and if we mistakenly flag something as inapropriate (like photos of your naked baby) it will be lost forever, no thanks needed.

photos of your naked baby

Sus

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

What did you think of, huh?

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

I dont have kids but I'm given to understand they are pretty much constantly naked until they are 4 years old.

[–] Vinny_93@lemmy.world 30 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Just try it bro. We think you'll really like it once you see what it has to offer. It's really just all so convenient and it's really not that expensive. Try our family plan to get an even higher discount bro. Access your files from literally anywhere bro. Copilot can help you with anything you need bro.

I actually find Onlyoffice to be a more suitable replacement to Microsoft office. It has formulas that libre office is missing and has support for editing transparency of images in word.

[–] vivendi@programming.dev 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

~~OnlyOffice sees little to no dev time and it is insanely behind LO in terms of development and features, please consider using LO for your own sake~~

Guys this comment is wrong I was thinking of OpenOffice

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's open office. Only Office is supposedly acceptable although it's heavily geared towards Microsoft files and tends to ignore open formats (which is bad in my opinion).

[–] vivendi@programming.dev 1 points 1 week ago

Ohhhhhhhb lmfao you're right

[–] AtariDump@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This is probably true, but after 10+ years of using the MS ribbon it’s difficult to go back to a non-ribbon (default) interface.

[–] stephen01king@piefed.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Libre office does have a ribbon interface now you can activate. I still have trouble getting used to some of its behaviour that differs from Excel, though.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I refuse. I'll be switching 100% over to Linux

[–] brotundspiele@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Microsoft Clippy with HAL 9000s eyes. saying: "It looks like you want me to download a Linux installer. I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that."

This mission is too important, for me to allow you to jeopardise it.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Too late! I've already got an installer on a USB drive

[–] brotundspiele@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Tell me, Mr. Anderson, what good is a USB drive if you're unable to plug it in?

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

You can't scare me with this gestapo crap!

[–] uservoid1@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

The options would be:

  • Copilot
  • Start our 30 days premium
  • Remind me later
[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Just so you know, shitting on Microsoft is much more fun if done on a linux-based operating system.

[–] ScienceGuy722@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I'm already doing that because I daily-drive a Steam Deck.

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I installed windows last week for hardware testing purposes (wasn't sure if it was hardware or Linux config so I wanted to try the inferior system) and lost track of how many "free trials" I had to decline by the time I was done. I fucking hate windows.
