Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

MODERATORS

A rambling senator explains how eating radioactive shrimp will turn you into the xenomorph from Alien and other ludicrous claims about "foreign" shrimp.

Seriously, stop doing business with Americans. They're idiots.

The governance of the US looks more and more like the movie ideocracy by the day.

Godzilla isn’t real. Alien isn’t about radioactive monsters.

This guy should be fired and possibly medically examined for whatever brain trauma caused him to give this presentation.

As absurd as that movie was, the goverment was still more capable than whatever the fuck the US has at the moment.

Absolutely please do stop doing business with the US.

That being said, making generalizations about the entire population of a country is generally a crappy thing to do (same with any other demographic that isn't just self identification with an ideology defined by hate or cruelty)

America is made of many people, plenty of whom are morons, plenty of whom are not. We unfortunately we have a wildly dysfunctional system of government that morons have gamed to consistently concentrate power in the hands of stupidest and most self destructive.

[–] ZDL@lazysoci.al 2 points 4 days ago (3 children)

If morons can game better than smart people, what does it say about the smart people?

[–] Cris_Color@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

A two party system has meant there isn't really a party of smart people. Just a party of dumb people and slightly less dumb people.

The Democratic party isn't actively self destructive, but the right wing being as self destructive as it is is absolutely a reflection of the dysfunction of the Democratic party to serve the interests of its people and engage with the countries problems in good faith.

You get to choose between complacent short-sighted people who allowed us to get to our current point, or people who are actively trying to destroy everything about the country that actually serves its people. Thats why the left in the US regularly has heated conversations about whether it's better to vote for the lesser of two evils, or not vote at all in expression of your dissatisfaction with the one party who really needs your vote as a "left" party.

That the smart people were busy doing something more important, like science? Why would you expect smart people to participate in such a stupid game?

[–] ZDL@lazysoci.al 2 points 3 days ago

To avoid having what's happened happen.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago

Not better, just more effectively, because they aren't considering the long term implications of their actions.

[–] KeavesSharpi@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago

IDK, we're pretty stupid on average.

How does that guy keep a straight face? Radiation will not make you grow a third ear, he is just fear mongering. The shrimp were found out before they hit the shelves and I am sure they did more testing on the shrimp that came in on that order. The cesium wasn’t even at dangerous levels, plus it is in everything (low levels) in everything since the first nuke went boom!

I hate how he talked about hormones being used to grow these shrimp, they have their own hormones that they make as part of life. Even if they where to use artificial hormones and you are concerned go play with yourself (or a friend) and your body will flood its self with your own hormones!

One night after I was done studying for the day for finals in university I saw an A&W ad saying they raise their beef without hormones, I know they ment artificial hormones but the ads where saying hormones. I was really tired and I had been studying something; my university studies where focused mainly on sex, gender, and development so I know a thing or two on the topic so I wrote a very angry email to A&W about how they must castrate their cattle to raise them without the use of hormones. I would only latter realize after I was more awake and not half a sleep that they would have to grow their beef in a vat if they where not to use hormones.

[–] cazzmaniandevil@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Even in a vat they'd need to use growth hormones to get any usable product. Cells don't really grow without it.

[–] Reannlegge@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 days ago

Yeah I guess you are right. Even cloned cells need them to develop and split and do all that fun stuff that cells do.

Every day Im unsure if they are cartoonishly, megalomanically evil. or just weapons grade stupid.

That man graduated from Vanderbilt and Oxford universities. I assure you that he's not stupid. He's just willing to act stupid to advance the evil.

[–] andrewta@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Are there stupid people in the US? Of course. Plenty of stupid people in every country.

[–] ZDL@lazysoci.al 11 points 4 days ago (2 children)

What does it say, however, when you put all your stupid people at the top?

[–] forrgott@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 days ago

I imagine the answer is about as useful as the lame excuses people use to justify bigotry.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
