This is a super meh format for the meme but it's the same text so you get the idea

If Toyotathon and Shark Week were made holidays I certainly wouldn't complain.

[–] SomeAmateur@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I want some Shark Week carols, and not that fog machine evangelical grade stuff. Something epic like "O Holy Sharks of the Dark Night Sea" or something lol

[–] Krudler@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

If the woke get their way, pretty soon we won't have shark carols anymore they'll be illegal

What's toyotathon? A sale on Toyota?

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

A bunch of BS, that's what it is. Everyone knows this is a Happy Hondadays instance.

Yes, there's probably details but you'd regularly see Toyota dealerships advertising "Toyotathon" about once a year, I think to clear out last year's models or something. This is called a "sales event" because for some reason the automotive industry cannot simply call it a "sale."

This day is not July 1st.

Numbers is part of the old testament, before the calendar counting the days since Christ. It's referring to the Jewish calendar instead.

In Judaism, the year starts on Rosh Hashanah, which usually occurs around mid-September. The first day of the 7th month would be somewhere in March.

Still doesn't seem like Easter.

I don't care. I will take any excuse to listen to some Madness or the mighty mighty bosstones (ska fanatics please spare me i know the specials and selector exist...)

[–] swab148@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Ska fanatics would probably listen to Desmond Dekker or Justin Hinds that day.

It makes me so happy to see first wave recognized

People so rarely know

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Actually this is about Rosh Hashanah, which is the first day of the seventh month despite being the beginning of the year. Calendars are fun.

[–] 3abas@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

How is the first day of the seventh month also the beginning of the year on the same calendar?

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Well, you know how the school year starts in September, and the fiscal year starts in July, and the calendar year starts in January, and those are all in the Gregorian calendar? Its sorta like that.

Just tell me what day kashrut law permits me to listen to Sublime, and I’ll do it… I have no desire to offend the old gods or the new.

Can I get a rudeboi Jesus, skankin it in OG holiday fashion?

[–] Krudler@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

Sure bro, that sounds like it's within operational parameters

[–] Terrapinjoe@lemmy.world 27 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sounds like something we should pick it up, pick it up, pick it up!

[–] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think we should take it one step beyond.

[–] Snowpix@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

I think I'll have myself a beer instead.

[–] tazeycrazy@feddit.uk 18 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

No regular work. Sounds great

[–] 52fighters@lemmy.sdf.org 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm up for it. As an American, this could easily turn into a week off work with July 4th just a few days later. Music, fireworks, and good food! It'll be a great time!

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 4 points 2 weeks ago

Y'all deserve it with how little vacation time some of you get. I’m over here enjoying my bare minimum 28 annual days of PTO (though we count weekends unlike some other countries nearby)

I had to look it up. It's referring to Rosh Hashanah. It's based on the Jewish Calendar.

[–] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 22 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Rosh Hashanah

I don't know them. I haven't followed Ska since the 90s.

[–] YurkshireLad@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

You haven’t? That’s madness!

[–] kersploosh@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You came in with the breeze on Sunday morning...

It really is one of those rare flawless albums where not only is there no bad or even mediocre songs, but every single one is an absolute banger!

[–] DrDystopia@lemy.lol 5 points 2 weeks ago

It's still one of my all time favourite albums. 😌

Nowadays it's more like what's your favourite YouTube channel and the world is a new and scary type of crazy. 😔

[–] kruhmaster@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Anybody else got Reel Big Fish bouncing around their head right now?

[–] Snowpix@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

RBF, Jeff Rosenstock, and Streetlight Manifesto. 24/7.

[–] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Wouldn't it technically be the first of September? The actual 7th month?

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

If we’re going by the Hebrew calendar it would be Rosh Hashanah, which starts on the first of the seventh month, which this year is on September 22

[–] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Duh, right. L'shahnah tova!

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

As a Gentile I always appreciated the day off around my birthday

[–] csolisr@hub.azkware.net 2 points 1 week ago

BRB asking a rabbi if it's kosher to bring a ska band to the next Rosh Hashanah

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

This tracks because the only good modern Christian band I can think of is Five Iron Frenzy

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

So TMBG seems to have a permanent horn section. Are they ska now?

[–] BurntWits@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 weeks ago

Looks like Canadians are the true followers of Christ.

ContextJuly 1st is Canada Day, which is a national holiday. It’s Canada’s version of July 4th.
