Oh wow, on sale too. I swear the last time I looked the MW franchise was getting crapped on in reviews, but this one seems decently received.
Yeah I bought it about a year ago and had a lot of fun with it. There are a lot of different gameplay systems and the combat is satisfying.
Make sure to check out mods too! The "Yet Another" series of mods adds a ton of amazing content to the game including clan mechs
Titanfall 2 is still the most fun experience overall imo.
amazing game, great robots. Just know that it's also a fps for meth addicts and the multiplayer is essentially a series of death screens until you can pick up all the tech everyone is using
There is a mode that's strictly mech v mech. Which is pretty much all I play.
Lol true, the campaign doesn't really prepare you for the hell that is pug pvp. However, in private games with your buds, best gaim evar!
oh yeah, private games are perfect. also worth mentioning that the campaign is basically a Saturday morning cartoon but it pulled ugly tears out of my scrunched up face like the goddamn exorcist removing a demon
It's still great. My kids are playing it and are big fans.
Hawken was dope as hell when it was running. It was a bit faster than Mechwarrior, no anime stuff. It looks like Hawken Reborn is an early access game on Steam, but I can’t vouch for it.
Armored Core is famously serious and artistic but it lacks very engaging multiplayer. Basically just 1v1-4v4 deathmatches but they can be as interesting as you are creative with the mech customizations
Daemon X Machina has a more fast paced mecha feeling. Very similar to the Armored Core games. Which makes a lot of sense, since Kenichiro Tsukuda and Shoji Kawamori are both behind it. Just got a sequel too! Shame it's damn expensive.
If you had asked a while ago I would have recommended Super Mecha Champions, an anime styled third-person Battle Royale game where you could call in a mech or fight on foot as a pilot. Sadly, the servers shutdown, so I can't play it anymore. The game had gacha elements for cosmetics, but characters and mechs were earnable in game. The gameplay was fun too, I really miss it. Which feels crazy for me to say about a NetEase game that started on mobile. I guess they needed more server hardware and developers for Marvel Rivals.
You might try M.A.S.S. Builder, although it is more similar to Gundam than MechWarrior. It is also anime styled, but the anime characters aren't really on screen for very long compared to your own mech. The mechs are more humanoid in appearance and are insanely customizable, down to the bare frame even. It has some multiplayer though it is primarily designed as a singleplayer game.
There is of course, MechWarrior 5, I think Clans is new, and MechWarrior Online has what, 16v16 or 8v8 matches?
Mecha Break might be one to look into. I haven't looked into it took much myself but I have heard good things about the gameplay. I think its a 5v5 PvP game.
As greatly pained as I am to say it, mech games are a tiny niche. One that suffers from "the mech curse," which is basically that a game gets popular for a month and then dies off hard.
