This is true when you company is heavily disorganized and people have to go see each other face to face to go around ineffective people or services. This is a clear sign that Microsoft is highly disorganized and on the track to be more and more inefficient. And if people can't take a break of the chaos by working remote they can't do task which require not to be perturbed for hours. Investisors should avoid this company, it has no long terme view.
As a person that has done WFH since 2010, I can confirm two things: 1) Working alone is 150% more efficient than office. 2) Trainees or Projects that have group collaboration thrive better with intraoffice contact. There is no remote tool that captures the performance boost you get from direct in person collaboration.
Also, Microsoft just sent a message to everyone the MS Teams is not good. Lol.
Oh, good. Everyone was very on the fence about how good Teams was before, it's nice to finally have a definitive answer.
So ironic given they produce the worlds premier remote workplace communication tool…
They own WebEx?

I guess this is one way to keep North Koreans from getting employment through remote jobs...?

They're asking for 3 days per week but not the full 5. This is pretty in line with the "new normal" compromises that most businesses are asking of knowledge workers these days.
In my opinion/experience, in-person group collaboration can be very helpful, so I can see the argument for it. But, I think it should flexible and not be required by an arbirary number of in-person days. Maybe 1 regular day per week at minimum. Maybe.
I'm in office 3 days a week and honestly most of the time it's a waste of my commute time because my teams are remote anyway. My work does provide incentives to come in on occasion (periodic lunches for example) which is nice if I can/want to make it.
